Santiago Vergini has been offered an exit route from Sunderland with a move to Spain’s La Liga.Vergini has been left in limbo after Sunderland were forced to sign the Argentine international on a permanent basis, following last season’s loan spell at the Stadium of Light.

As reported last week, Dick Advocaat has made it crystal-clear that Vergini is not part of his plans and has told the 26-year-old to find himself a new club.

But it is believed that Sunderland are in advanced negotiations with a La Liga club over Vergini, who has been left training with the Under-21s while the Black Cats first-team has travelled here to North America for their pre-season tour.

It is thought that those transfer talks were the reason behind Vergini leaving the ground in a taxi, prior to the U21s’ friendly at Consett on Tuesday night.

There had been interest in Vergini from his homeland after Argentine outfit Newell’s Old Boys made an enquiry for the centre-half.

But with Newell’s struggling to raise the money needed to cover Sunderland’s enforced outlay on Vergini, the Black Cats were forced to turn elsewhere.

Vergini is not the only first-team outcast training with the U21s. Valentin Roberge and Charis Mavrias both featured in the Consett encounter after returning from loan spells on the Continent last season.

Sunderland are hoping to move Roberge on after the centre-half’s spell with Stade de Reims last season, while they remain in negotiations with Greek side Panathinaikos over Mavrias.

Panathinaikos want to re-sign Mavrias after he joined his boyhood club on a loan spell in January.

However, the two clubs have been in talks over both the size of the fee, plus how it is structured, with Panathinaikos keen to pay in instalments, depending on their progress in Europe.

Good news, hopefully by the end of the window Bridcock. Buckteeth, graham, Fletcher, Roberge and mavrias are all moved on.

Bizarre the way the deals were set up last summer, I reckon he'll do well over there and we will get a fee for him next summer, if he has a good season maybe more than we paid by a bigger club than Getafe.

Still sau he's a very good player, just not for this league, looking at him trying to work out what to do when his marker ran the channels was funny. Don't think he'll ever get the game over here but will do well in spain.
