    Take your pick...

GUS Poyet says he was quietly confident that Santiago Vergini would rise to the challenge of becoming emergency right-back for Sunderland.

But now the Black Cats’ boss faces a dilemma for Sunday’s crunch relegation game against Cardiff City – whether to stick with the versatile Argentinian, who has performed so well in the games against Manchester City and Chelsea, or whether to recall Phil Bardsley who has been clear first-choice this season.

Bardsley is now available after a two-game suspension, imposed after picking up his 10th booking of the season in the narrow defeat to Everton earlier this month, and will be keen to make an immediate return

Vergini for me seems to be getting better each game, plus bardo is off soon so play vergini to the end of season.
As we have two good reults without bardo we should not change a winning team.

This. I am quietly convinced that Vergini will become a very good player for us, his tackling at times has been superb, and he is good with the ball at his feet. Bardsley arguably has a better shot on him, and both are guilty of bad positioning occasionally.

Our current 11 are full of confidence, and as stated, should not be changed if possible

No reason to change the team after last 2 games.

Vergini has earned his place and should keep it.
imo he`s as good as Bardsley and improving.

Keep him in. Unchanged for me Comm. Besides Vergini is a way better footballer, hopefully as he settles and gets used to the pace, he'll improve defensively.

Spot on bri. I have always backed bardo. But Vergini has been excellent last 2 games. It'd be silly, without a hand being forced, to change a side that has played so well of late.

Everyone has "got a mistake" in them. Even Ronaldo and Messi!

He is starting to look like a footballer and capable - so you were wrong. You also wanted Poyet sacking - were you wrong about that or will you be screaming for that against Cardiff on Sunday?

Ok, I say it different music boy, virgin boy is a walking mistake ready to happen.

I just love it when mug fans like you say I'm wrong but weeks down the line I'm right. didn't you mugs learn anything from the Ki thing? <laugh> always jumping the gun.

I wanted Poyet out because he was making stupid mistakes but he's went back to basics & what a surprise we doing ok again. if we do go down then I would get rid of him. he has failed at keeping us up so bye bye.

Stick with Vergini. I think his distribution is better and the timing of his tackling has vast improved. he's less likely to take an unnecessary 40 yard shot when he has far better options available to him.

We may need a lot of patience on Sunday breaking Cardiff down.

Been impressed with Bardo's efforts (much like previous contract seasons) but I agree with you 100%. The number of poor final ball's and attacking opportunities wasted with a poor long shots has been far too frequent this season. Vergini is much better on the ball with a far superior footballing brain, he's much less likely to concede possession than Bardo imo. Still think Bardo has the Edge defensively but then, Right Back is Bardo's natural position and Vergini is still adapting to the pace over here. Fact is Vergini has done nothing to warrant being dropped, even if I do hate players out of position.

aye. vergini brings the ball out from the back with confidence. can't remember him misplacing or making a **** pass in his last few games. if bardo could do that and choose the right time to shoot he'd be a more accomplished player. sadly you can see him havin a brain fart before smashing another hurculean effort into row Z.

we'll need extra composure on sunday. struggling a bit to have to wait until then for kick-off. wish i was there

Vergini has earned his spot in the team

He doesn't get forward as much as Bardsley, but sadly 90% of the time Bardsley decision making and quality of his final ball is really poor

Play McBardo up front behind Connor. Good shot on the lad and he'll get stuck into the Cardiff defence.

    Large tequila anybody....?
