A lot of people have an opinion on Santi Vergini and where he is most effective. Could it be that his best position is split between RB and CB? This is my formation if we ever played 3 at the back as an option (3-6-1/3-5-2).

    GK - Mannone
    RCB - Vergini
    CB - O'shea
    LCB - Brown
    RWB - Jones
    LWB - Van Aanholt
    DM - Cattermole
    RM - Alvarez
    CM - Rodwell
    LM - Giaccherinni
    ST - Wickham

What's your thoughts and what would your formation be if adopting three at the back!!!

The player at United just do not get the formation. I' not entirely sure about it personally. I'd prefer United to keep ****ing it up and then fix the creases in it before we look at it.

Not sure he is quick enough for that position, if Wes was younger it might have worked but you never know in football, I like the back three system personally but it only works with the right players, ie footballers who can think through a game and can adapt and change patterns if and when, I wish we had bought Vandyke as he looks to be one of these players.

No I'd rather play the back 4 as is and use Catts as cover. The CBs don't have enough pace to do this I would of thought. We have the right formation just need to push Wickham up top and bring in a midfielder for Fletcher.

I don't know much about Seb Coates but if he possesses any sort of pace maybe he could slot in in place of O'shea or Brown with protection from Cats and Rodwell when defending.

The positive about playing wing backs is that you can field two strikers, otherwise its pointless imo. If we went wing backs then

    ----------------Mannone--------------------
    ------Vegini-----Coates------Brown----------
    Jones-----------------------------Van Aanholt
    ------------Rodwell--Cattermole--------------
    ----------------Giaccherini-------------------
    -------------Wickham--Altidore---------------

Our strongest team imo will have Johnson and Alvarez in it and that itll be in a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1

This team looks OK, but we have a few options at the moment and it will be very interesting to see our team sheets over the next few games, last season it took Gus a while to settle on a formation, and I expect it will be the same again.

I think we'll set up with three at the back next season. We've only got 6 defenders, 5 of which would need to be on the pitch including the wingbacks. We're simply too light, besides, we'd need to start devoting training sessions to it this season and have a full pre season learning to to have a chance of getting it right. It will take a lot of preparation.

Always been a fan of 3-5-2 since the Germans have had that system forever at club and country level. The system allows for more variations in attack and defence but players must be switched on for the entire game. Something we have not mastered yet.
