http://rokerreport.sbnation.com/201...-defender-wins-surprise-international-call-up Sunderland defender Santiago Vergini is a surprise inclusion in the Argentina squad for their upcoming games in Asia against Brazil and Hong Kong. It is something of a surprise, but it perhaps shouldn't be. Vergini was a key member of new Argentina boss Gerado Martino's Newell's Old Boys team, and there was even talk that he was such a big fan of the defender he considered taking him to Barcelona with him. It's certainly a nice reward for Vergini, who has had a generally solid start to the season since returning on a second loan deal this summer. There is no place for summer signing Ricky Alvarez, though, which is a shame. However, perhaps selfishly, may be taking the time to settle in here would do Sunderland more good than shooting off to Asia for a bit. -------------------------------------------------- As the article states, nice for at least the foreign FA's to take notice!
Delighted for him, and for us. Whenever a Sunderland player gets into a squad as good as theirs, it just has to be good. I hope he plays well and keeps his spot. Pity about Alvarez but the squad in Germany lacked Messi who is presumably back now, so one midfielder had to be left out. With their squad, I'm just happy that he was even in the running. I agree with wise men say about tomorrow night. We have to start planning soon ... the clock is ticking for Brown and O'Shea.
