Well not exactly dead, but almost. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-12366273
One of my mates works on the Gryphon and was there when that happened. He didn't get choppered off though as he's core crew. He said it was ****ing wild, the place was swaying like ****. To give you an idea of how mental the seas and wind must have been each of those four chains that snapped weighed 50 tonnes!!!! It would have been a massive environmental disaster is that thing had properly broken it's moorings. They're just giant Oil Tankers anchored to the sea-bed with a **** load of oil stored in them and a drilling derrick attached. Those FPSOs are ****ing mental, I've been on the sister vessels of the Gryphon; the NSP and the Curlew for Maersk back before I worked out here. I had savage sea sickness the first day on both of them. The NSP was probably the best place I've been to in the North Sea though. The folk on it are sound as **** and the cabins are plush.
