Bradford city chairman: "âmore than one clubâ is interested and confirmed that Bradford had a âfirm bid from one club.â âThereâs been a couple of Premier League sides shown interest, a couple of Championship sides and a couple of others as well,â âOur still preferred option would be to give Nahki a new contract, and for him to stay with us,â added Mr Lawn. âBut as you know thereâs only 18 months on it, so we need to start looking at really whatâs best for the football club as well as Nahki. And he wants to play at the highest level as soon as possible I think.â Asked by the radio host whether he thinks Wells has the ability to play in the Premier League, Mr Lawn said: âYeah, I do actually.â âI certainly think heâll be a bargain for someone to pick up. Iâm not just saying that because heâs ours obviously, but his finishing, his pace and heâs a very cool customer as well and I donât think heâd worry. âI am going to be quite honest, you see the benches at Premier League and I am sure that Nahki could be an impact player for them,â added Mr Lawn. âHe can score goals. That is what you need, you do need goals on your team. If you need a goal scorerâ¦and they are hard to find.â As the football transfer window looms, Bradford Cityâs Phil Parkinson said they would like to resolve the circumstances surrounding Nahki Wells early âone way or another.â Mr Parkinson told the Telegraph & Argus that âThe key to it is that Iâd like it resolved early one way or another. Obviously there are players out there who are available and who weâre looking at should Nahki go. âIâve got to do that in terms of making sure we are covered if that scenario should happen. What concerns me is if the window draws to a close and he goes right at the end of it. Then the players who are possibly available we might lose. âThe best scenario is that we keep him because heâs a terrific goalscorer. But weâve got to make sure we get it right. Weâve got to start winning games of football.â âThe speculation about whether Nahki is going or staying has been going on for quite a long time now, since last summer. We need to get it resolved.â http://bernews.com/2014/01/premier-championship-interest-in-nahki-wells/ I bet we're the club to make a firm offer, probably the £3million alluded to here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/25115252
Redknapp was asked about Wells in his press conference, and I thought his body language suggested he's interested. Called him a "good young player" anyway- why wouldn't you make inquiries about players you rate?
There is talk about Schlupp going out on loan to Wigan, which indicates we have a striker waiting in the wings. I'd like it to be Wells, but there is no chance he's worth 3m if thats what you're bidding.
Nigel Pearson was asked about Redknapp's remark about our supposed signing of Kevin Phillips and he said; @JasonBourne1986: Pearson responds to Phillips being linked with #lcfc. Says "surprises" him other managers comment on matters elsewhere. Did you not find it a little weird that he's worrying about us? After all the money you've spent and he's jealous of our two free agents, non league striker and academy youth?
Peterborough made a 7 figure bid for Wells during the summer, and the recent rejected one is said to be an improved offer (probably from Huddersfield). http://www.thetelegraphandargus.co....ford_City_refuse_first_Wells_offer/?ref=var_0 I don't think Harry's worried or jealous, he's just justifying buying a couple of strikers (+looseining purse strings) by making comparisons with other contender's squads. He's pissed off with Journo's saying we've got strength in depth too, when we've got 1 fit striker, and Leicester etc. have 4+.
That aint gonna happen. A nice thought but the wages Bradford would offer would be at least one nought per week less than Hughes got for him so unfortunately we will find it next to impossible to move BZ on. I fear the only way we'll get Wells is if Spurs buy him and then loan him to us. That way he will actually come across Redknapps radar. 'Good young player' is just another Redknappism to go with 'Lovely boy', Never had a moments trouble wiv 'im' and 'eez a terrific lad who's done really well for XYZ"
http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/358907/No-Nahki-Wells-move-for-QPR The Star says it was us who made the bid, which was rejected. This is very good news if true- shows we're after him! Hopefully an improved offer will do the job?
Two hungry young strikers would be a bit much for me. Can we not just sign another short-term thirty-something?
I believe Huddlesfield have already made bid for him, sounds like he could be signing for us...better than carlton cole
