MOTD pundit Danny Murphy adamant it shouldn't have been a red. Just trying to ascertain if I am in the minority but I thought it was a straight red all day long. Granted he got the ball but he leapt off the ground and ended up with both feet going into the tackle. Thought the penalty against Simpson was correct as well.
I thought Vardy was impeded before he made the challenge. Free kick to Leicester. The continuation was a yellow at worst. This is the same ref Craig Pawson who didn't send off Rojo after a wild two footed challenge against Zaha on Wednesday. Danny Simpson's hand ball, was it deliberate? I don't think so. He flung himself to block the cross. His hand position couldn't be premeditated. Pawson is a poor ref. Not Lee Mason poor - Did you see the penalty decision he gave against Hull v West Ham? - But poor all the same.
I looked at the Vardy one very closely as I had heard Leicester had claimed he was pushed first. He launched himself before contact with the third player, and it was a reckless two footed lunge. I'm no expert but, even though technically he may have been fouled during his tackle, it deserved a red. But I've seen worse not given. I am confused about what is and isn't a handball in the box nowadays. No intent with Simpson, but if an opposing player had been in that situation against QPR, I would have been yelling for a penalty.
I thought it was a red based on the way these things are supposed to be interpreted these days. I also thought it was a penalty for the same reason. I also think Rooney needs a shave.
Refereeing is becoming a bit of a joke really, for example yesterday Imbrahimovic got away with what was effectively a forearm smash which he only got a yellow card for. I suspect if it had been an Albion player doing that to him it would have been a red card...
I thought Vardy's was red. He may have got the ball but he could have broken a leg. Red every day. Simpson's hand was vertically above his head. If you're diving to the floor, your arm goes wide and down to cushion the fall, stabilise your position etc. Never vertically upwards! Penalty all the time. I'm more bothered by the lack of consistency of yellow's for dissent. MOTD was full of dissent and perhaps one yellow for it? Likely cost us the Wolves game and the rule is not being applied fairly in my view.
Certainly wouldn't want to be a referee these days. This was the same ref who let Rojo off in the week wasn't it? You'd like to think that wouldn't affect his decision making in subsequent games but maybe it did. Still think Vardy's was the right call, however you look at it, it was dangerous play. Certainly have sympathy for Simpson but if that happened against us I'm sure we'd be crying bloody murder if the pen wasn't given.
You lot are wrong and I'm the only one on this thread who's right ... as per usual. https://you-are-the-ref.com/hacketts-verdict-craig-pawson-not-refereeing-premier-weekend/
It certainly was nowhere near as bad as the Barkley one last night & that received a caution! Not a chance of him winning his appeal though.
