http://www.burtonmail.co.uk/Sport/B...r-City-striker-Jamie-Vardy-20130706055555.htm Interesting article from Gary Rowett particularly this “I would walk over broken glass to have him as part of our squad, but I certainly haven’t had any contact over him. If I was a League One manager I’d be trying to do something with him but it’s pretty pointless trying to chase someone like that (in League Two)" ... I know Vardy has split opinion on our board to some extent - I certainly felt he did 'OK' in the first few games of last season and I wouldn't totally discount him even now ... would be great if he starts to notch in the pre-season friendlies and we might justfind that we actually have the 'poacher' we need already on our books ... Lest we forget, Yann Kermorgant has now proven that he is more than just decent at this level ... Thoughts?
I think Vardy is better than Waghorn in the games ive seen him play in, apart from a clumsy tackle to give a penalty away, he has done little wrong, hes had nowhere near enough chances to prove his worth, hes prob had less goal scoring opportunities in his Leicester career than Matty Fryatt used to have in a single game.
im one of the few that has really rated him - livewire up top and if i remember right he had a bit of a phase early on hitting the post and bar regularly - had they had gone in then who knows, could have been a totally different story!!
Big learning curve for him last season. Deserves a chance this season, especially with the lack of numbers in the squad that we may start off with.
Jamie Vardy now has had a year to adjust. I think he might be able to play more of a role. I dont think for 1 minute he will be able to get the shirts off David Nugent or Chris Wood. Vardy started last season well, he scored a few goals and looked a nuisance for the opposition, he just declined more and more as the season went on and he never looked like getting back into form. He looked out of his depth in the end. Now he knows what the expect so he should be better prepared this time around and maybe we will see a decent return from him yet. Waghorn is a better footballer then Vardy and probably even David Nugent. But Waggy isnt clinical enough and he needs to be playing every week to get the best out of him. He doesnt work well in a bit part role. I would quite happily keep both of them and get rid of Marko Futacs and look in the loan market for another striker. I dont see Jeff Schlupp as a striker and I think he will compete alot more of Lloyd Dyer then Paul Konchesky this time around. If Ben Marshall can get back into form then we are very well equipped down the wings with Anthony Knockaert aswell.
Yes, it will be interesting to monitor his pre-season form. As Proud said, can't see him breaking the first team, but it's always good to have two good options off the bench. Let's hope Vardy becomes one of those.
Don't worry about it mate - I remember being annoyed that Waghorn was being sent off on loan and we signed some non-league player that had a first touch that Mark de Vries shake his head at to take his place. I also remember being really annoyed we signed some bugger from Forest when we had the quality trio of Matt Mills, Sol Bamba and Sean St Ledger... Is a reason why I am not a football manager.
