Wow ... from the BBC Posted at09:31 please log in to view this image Getty Images German second tier side RB Leipzig claim they turned down the chance to sign Jamie Vardy two years ago - because the Leicester striker was too old. Vardy, 29, has scored 22 goals in 34 Premier League appearances to help leave the Foxes on the cusp of the title. "The agent said to me 'Mr Rangnick, it's a crying shame that you are so radical about who you sign and only go for players who are under 24 because I've got somebody who would be just perfect for you," said RB Leipzig coach and sporting director Ralf Rangnick. "It was Jamie Vardy."
Shlupp could be playing for Man Utd Mahrez could be playing for Arsenal Schmeichal could be playing for AC Milan Fuchs could be playing for LA Galaxy Guus Hiddink could be our manager Lot of things could have happened but didn't and here we are now - 3 points from winning the league...
... what the article suggests is that we might have been looking to offload him a couple of years ago ... there were also reports that we offered him to Wednesday for circa £5m over the summer prior to Claudio Ranieri being appointed ... what fine margins eh? Kaspar gave an interview piece where he commented on how Ranieri 'won over the dressing room' ... he mentioned that Ranieri said very little when he first came in just watched them training intensely and gave them all the opportunity to show what they were about ... the rest is now a glorious tale .. keep thinking back to my thoughts on seeing Okazaki and Vardy as the strikers in the opening line-up ... was quite depressed ... never have I been more wrong on anything football related ... Ranieri seems to have known exactly what he wanted from the off and there have been a few 'fine tuning' tweaks out of necessity on the way ... really hoping we can put it to bed on Sunday ... quite happy to play two meaningless fixtures after
Seems a bit weird that they would have scouted him then. Unless i've got it a bit wrong, wasn't that the summer after he'd tore the Championship a new one and had just been promoted as Champions? Doubt he'd have wanted to hop countries and go a tier down at a smaller club.
I hated the idea of signing Okazaki and made quite a name for myself over on FoxesTalk for being against it. It took him about half an hour to win me over after he'd ran Sunderland ragged and we were 3-0 up.
So Vardy just gets us out the Championship and 2 mins later we trying to shift him off to Leipzig? Sounds like rubbish to me
... might be some substance in it depending on where you make the 2 year point ... would be a strange thing for the leipzig coach/sporting director to be claiming if not some basis in fact ... loads of articles on it in News Now ...
At the start of that season Vardy was about to retire but Nigel Pearson convinced him otherwise, hardly sounds like he was about to ship him off to Germany
... as I said, it is in a large number of articles on News Now ... the guy at Leipzig says it was the player's agent that contacted him ... bit I posted was from today's BBC Sprtsday News ... Mercury running it too http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/R...icester-City/story-29186358-detail/story.html ... this would suggest it was around the time that Liverpool signed Joe Gomez - edit the article states Joe Gomez 'who later signed for Liverpool' - Gomez signed for 'pool in June 2015 ...
