...I went on to the Pink'un boards for the first time in an absolute age today, and shan't be returning any time soon. RVW had the fans in a stir when he signed as a great saviour and now it's taking him a while to adjust to the English game, he's got them in another, completely different stir. I always thought the buzz surrounding his signing was a bit over the top, but now it seems the fans bubble has burst - for some. Even the chap I sit next to on match days has been giving him grief. Am I in the minority, thinking that he will score an awful lot of goals for us once he's adapted?
You're not in the minority at all, I'm with you. As soon as his signing was confirmed I made a point of watching Sporting's games online and couldn't believe he was signing for us. He'll come good but I think he would benefit from a holding strike partner and before anyone 'says no-one plays two up front anymore', Liverpool did yesterday with the new S A S
I'm behind him 100%, but I'm wondering if he's experiencing a bit of a minor 'Torres' situation. Hughton wants to start him over Hooper as he's our record signing, whilst RvW is suffering from a slight lack of confidence.
I think CH is doing the right thing, if he gives Hooper a start it may well knock RVW's confidence. Hooper will hit the ground running due to his SPL experience, not that different in terms of the way they play.(quality of football is different obviously)
When our wide men learn to provide the sort of deliveries he will latch on to, he'll start scoring and impressing. His movement is great - but he needs somebody (Wes? or maybe Howson if he gets a sustained run in his by far best position) on his wavelength to anticipate when and where he'll make those runs. Too many of our deliveries into the box would be much better suited to a Holt/Morison type player.
he's a class act. teething problems at the moment but anybody who knows what makes a good goal scorer will like what they see so far. his movement is by a considerable distance the best i've ever seen from a norwich striker. even better than david mooney
Personally I would like Hooper to start next time out as he has looked very sharp when he has played, which hasn't been much obviously and may be play with RVW for a half game. That may unbalance the team but it does seem a little unfair on Hooper right now when RVW is not quite firing yet.
RVW has got all the time he likes in my book. He is a player of incredible skill and will prove it. Incredible some are singling him out just based on his price tag. Abusing him on twitter is not the best way to make I score goals, not sure when morons will realise that. In short, his detractors are a minority, some people just need a "Morison" in their lives.
I'm sure he'll start scoring once he gets the right sort of deliveries. He's not a 'Holt' type player and if he'd had the sort of through ball that Fer gae Hooper at Watford, then I'm sure he would have scored too!!
do we have an abnormally high number of morons on twitter / facebook? it's absurd really. so many negative comments on FB yesterday after we won. clearly some of them are wumming. some users were fighting our corner thank god social media wasn't as big in the rodent days, it would have been total meltdown. if people are sending rvw abuse on twitter, that is not on. they are not true fans at all. moronic.
I'll be honest I thought his movement was actually pretty poor on Saturday, the worst I think I've seen it for us so far but I also agree that normally it is pretty special so it is entirely ridiculous that people are slating him already, absolutely mindless!
I dont think RVW sitting out a game or two is a bad idea. Get Hooper in to bang a few in and take the heat off RVW.
I didn't see the game on Sunday but I did see the Villa game and he has incredible movement when looking to receive the ball. I cringed at times in the Villa game when he was working his arse off making a yard or 2 of space in the middle between the centre backs, succeeding and then only then to be ignored and the ball passed wide instead. He was getting well jarred off and who could blame him! anyone who has played the game at a decent level will know how hard it is to create space in the middle there, manage to stay onside at the same time and receive the ball.
His movement was fecking abysmal on Saturday, apparently he did very little apart from get his arse up to stoke ready for the game on Sunday- sorry I've never darken your door again!
I think that's a terrible idea, if CH did that it would wreck his confidence no end. Best to keep giving him starts to get him used to the PL and if he's not doing too well bring on Hooper as a sub.
