anyone got a van or a trailer I could borrow for a few hours today and tomorrow to pick up/move some furniture for my daughter? Getting quoted silly prices for man with a van to do it and most rental places seems to be shut today.
I live in low Fell but I need to pick stuff up from crook and Cramlington (free or cheap from gumtree) and take to my daughters house in Gateshead (near Saltwell park).
How much furniture are you getting for your daughter? Have 2 daughters and am genuinely interested as to what the going rate is these days.
You’d be surprised (as I have been) at the amount of stuff you can pick up off gumtree and facebook market place for next to nothing and even free. I’ve lost out on some decent stuff just by not having the means to pick it up (sofas). People can’t be arsed to pay people to take stuff away so they just sell it for buyer to collect to get rid. Washers and dryers for between £20 - £50, sofas, tables and chairs and tv units anywhere from free (there is actually some really good stuff) to whatever you’re prepared to pay. I drove down to crook last night to pick up a sofa which can’t have been more than 2 years old, absolutely spotless and very nice and the bloke wanted nowt for it as it was/is currently being used as a roundabout in his kitchen. Bastard thing was too wide by about 1cm and wouldn’t go over the wheel arch things in the back of my x-trail....wasn’t happy. Seriously though, look around on those places, charity shops are also a good shout and they’ll deliver for a small fee as well. If your daughters are close together age wise then just make them move out at the same time and into the same flat/house then you can just get it all done in one go ;-). If you’ve got space start looking early and get stuff picked up and stored away and then you’ve got it there for when they’re ready to move. If you know people with vans all the better, makes life a lot easier.
