But look at Zenden, even though he's ancient he still changes the team to a better force when he comes on. Somebody like Van Nistelrooy could really get the team going, try to impress him. Even past his prime, his prime was ****ing awesome!
I would love to RVN playing for us next season he would be a great addtion to the squad. Yes he is 34 but he could still score a few goals. he would be good for the younger players to learn from.
We need someone to score goals, nothing else. The movement and the class is Gyan's. RVN is 34, but if he's on a free this summer, he's worth looking at as a short-term answer. So what's his RECENT scoring rate like - anyone know?
I tell you this right now, i watch loads of German football, ****ing loads of it via bet365, cos it's quality, and the closest to the Premier League in style. My favourite team in the Bundesliga is Hamburg, purely because when i started to watch it n aforementioned bookies side, the player that i used to love watching was Piotr Trochowski, i have no real bond with German football, other than that i once went to see Dortmund vs Hannover when i was over there on work. I mention this purely to say, that i have watched the 'red shorts' maybe 18 or so times in the last 2 seasons, and the once legendary RVN is now absolutely ****e, immobile, slow, disinterested and done. We'd be just as well off to sign Mara-****ing-dona and Gazza to play in midfield. The biggest no i can muster by the medium of text, but if any of you are stood anywhere near Baltic Quay in Newcastle, you may have heard my screams of terror/fear when i read that we were being linked with the geriatric ex-goalscorer.

He has always been a goal scorer, one other thing is he has never been fast so even though he is 34 , he never had to rely on pace to score his goals he always in the right place at the right time and you dont lose that.
seen an interview with him a few weeks ago, "if i can go an do a good job for someone, even if i'm not first choice, i'd be happy" so on that basis, he'd be a good squad player.
Problem is mate, he'd still expect a minimum 30k a week, realistically. The image is wonderful, of RVD running around in a Sunderland shirt, the reality is that he's a 34 year old who was never quick, and who actually got slower after a succession of injuries. He just ain't up to it any more, he should either a) retire, or b) go back to Holland where defending is so poor he can have a swansong at home to celebrate a great career.
Too old no comparison to Zenden who hasn't had the bad injuries RVN has had, do we really want another crock player taking up space on the treatment table? Like some have said on here the RVN of a few years ago yes no problem at all but not now he'll be looking for a big pay day as well so leave well alone.
If RVN signed for us it would be about 15 years too late. Reidy was looking at him when he was a young lad starting to make his name, I think he even came over for a trial period, but PR decided he wasn't good enough.
