Many papers are reporting he offered his resignation immediately after the game on Saturday, it was rejected but he has another meeting with Ed Woodward today.

It's Mourinho's birthday today, is he going to be celebrating it with a new job?

    Edit:

Van Gaal did not offer to resign at the weekend, despite reports to the contrary.

I heard he's gone back to Holland on the news earlier.

Edit: Never mind he'd gone back for his daughters birthday & back in Mancland now!

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal did not offer to resign at the weekend, despite reports to the contrary.

Van Gaal, 64, was said to have told executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward he would be prepared to quit following Saturday's 1-0 defeat by Southampton.

Sources have told BBC Sport no such conversation took place.

I think the man should remain there for many years to come, he's doing great things.

Him and Brucey must use the same tactics sometimes; the football at OT is absolutely crap, it's no wonder the fans are up in arms. That said if you look at what LVG has spent (reported £250m?), and then serve up his style of sterile football, puts little old Hull City's achievements into perspective

If MU end up appointing Mou the fans will soon be complaining about the style of play all over again.

I think the thought process doesn't go beyond getting rid of LVG. They also need to get rid of Woodward but reckon that won't happen. Couldn't happen to a nicer club :emoticon-0100-smile

Man U are making us look like Brazil this season, think they had one shot or something last match, even big Tom manages that usually with one of his wayward attempts at the end of games. I like to watch football matches for entertainment so its disappointing when you tune in to see a team like Man U who are known for their attacking football play boring defensive crap. There is no excuse for Van Gaal, players like Depay could light up the league with the right coaching and backing, Herrera can make great runs from the midfield, Januzaj is another great attacker who needs the right coaching.

I'm hoping that he stays for a long long time whilst continuing to churn out dreadful, boring football. Thus meaning fans desert in their thousands and making the roads in and around Altrincham much less congested on matchdays.

Oh, and it's also quite funny seeing Man United fans not having everything their own way.

Considering we have a much better goals per game and points per game average, and the fact we are the second top scorers in the league, I tend to disagree.

Hardly. Especially after reports suggest that Ed Woodward has talked him out of quitting twice already since Christmas.

I expect LVG to remain until the summer. And then................

I think the board probably wants him to stay (only) until the summer, but I think there's a chance he could walk unless breaking his contract is too costly.

Could well be. Either way I don't expect to see LVG anywhere next season. Retirement looms large for him.

He does not need to cash anyway.
