It is surprising the amount of negativity the proposed appointment of Van Gaal is causing, history suggests that utd are a club that are not scared to give a youngster a chance even though Ferguson deviated away from that formula a while ago, but the one thing i can guarantee you is that Van Gaal will definitely give the young players all the chances in the world to succeed in the first team. Whilst the appointment is probably going to be a short term one, I feel that this is the right move because utd need a no nonsense coach who will come in and steady the ship and get rid of all the ageing players and deadwood and bring in fresh impetus and ideas based on speed and pure technical ability and when he does fall out with the club hierarchy which will happen, he will leave the club in a much better position going forward and there will be a few new names that will have emerged from the youth and reserve team in to the first team and, there will be no doubt that the players he will retain at the club will be the ones with the absolute best technical qualities. There will be surprises at the players he elects to get rid off and the ones he decides to keep, there will be plenty of falling out between him and certain star players as he is not afraid to drop anybody, case in point he played riquelme on the left wing and then dropped him and later loaned him out, his numerous clashes with Rivaldo and electing to play him continuosly on the left led to him leaving for milan. He has managed some of the greatest players of our generation and found success everywhere he has been and I really hope he retains Giggs so that he can learn as Mourinho learnt from him at Barca, the importance of meticulous preparation and tactical nous because whilst utd had a good win over Norwich at the weekend, the one thing that stuck in my mind was that Giggs used a 442 and the game only really opened up after Mata was brought on but imagine what tension there might have been had utd not had that penalty and so i feel that Giggs has learnt the good man management skills from Ferguson, now it is time to learn from a tactical master and in about three years, Giggs could be a very complete manager and rest assured Van Gaal will leave him with a much better team than when he took over with a lot of new younger players full of confidence. Whilst Ferguson had the class of 92, Van Gaal had Van Der Sar, the DeBoer Twins, Davids, Seedorf, Reizeger, Overmars, Finidi, Litmanen, Bergkamp, Kanu, Kluivert, Finidi, Xavi, Kroos, Muller, Alaba and a few more that i can't remember. I am really looking forward to how he is going to revamp the whole youth team set-up
