http://www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/qpr-boss-redknapp-confirms-interest-in-former-tottenham-star From West London Sport """""""""""""""""""" 27/07/2014 By David McIntyre Harry Redknapp has confirmed he is interested in bringing former Tottenham playmaker Rafael van der Vaart to QPR. The 31-year-old Dutchman, who played under the Rangers boss at White Hart Lane, is currently with German club Hamburg. And Redknapp, who is keen to sign at least one ânumber 10′ this summer, would like to be reunited with him if a deal can be agreed. He said: âHeâs a great footballer, great professional and a goalscorer â heâd get you 10 to 12 goals a year in that position. âI like Rafa. Heâs an interesting player and has got class.â Van Der Vaart scored a total of 24 goals in 63 Premier League appearances during a two-year spell at Spurs, who signed him from Real Madrid in 2010. Never really had pace so his age wouldnt matter as much, as long as his vision. Would work beautifully behind Stone Cold Charlie Austin
It was never English players, it was players who have proved themselves in English football. It's balls anyway as Redknapp has confirmed that we are still after that icelandic bloke from Ajax.
Stan, I know, I was taking the piss out of a certain poster on this board who was ranting about Harry's supposed English only recruitment "brainwashing" tactics. All in all, a pretty daft comment in itself !!
He does seem to be a perfect Harry type player. I wouldn't mind him if we get this french lad and Fer.
Career plagued by injuries including missing the recent WC. "The next season, Van der Vaart suffered a serious knee injury and was out for several months. Shortly after returning to action, he re-injured the same knee on 2 April 2002, requiring an operation that involved the removal of his entire meniscus" "the incident, coupled with his ongoing injury problems that resulted in an average of only 23 league appearances in five seasons with Ajax, led him to announce that he was leaving the club at the end of the year." "Thιs season proved to be a difficult one for his club, and despite Van der Vaart's three goals in the Champions League group stages, they made an early exit from the competition, while languishing for several months in the bottom half of the Bundesliga table as Van der Vaart was troubled by injuries throughout the season." "Van der Vaart was named in Louis van Gaal's provisional 30-man squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, but withdrew on 28 May, three days before the final squad was named, due to a calf injury that he suffered in training." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rafael_van_der_Vaart
Van of Farts Like a van full of farts Those Dutch people on their bikes smoking pancakes It's all a bit flat Apart from Amsterdam Lovely have a bang on that
This one might have legs, Van der Valk is on record as liking Redknapp as he doesn't do tactics and his training sessions are laid back. He says so here: http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2010/11/17/2217867/tottenham-midfielder-rafael-van-der-vaart-harry-redknapp
I'm big on Vanderfarts if he's up for doing a job for us. It is probably his last opportunity to make a go of it.
Haha. That's funny. He basically confirms what we all saw last season. No wonder Tottenham didn't crack the premier league fully.
The reality is that we need a playmaker if we're going to play wing-backs because we will have even less crosses than our normally low number. Playmakers are like gold dust though and so we would only ever be able to get flawed individuals (Taarabts and Morrison types) or older players (Kranky or VDV). Consistent ones, approaching their peaks like Ozil show what the true market value is for this type of footballer and "average" ones would still be nearer the £20M mark. Personally, I like either the flawed ones (something a little more human about them) or the wise heads but we need to be realistic about what we can get and accept either the temperaments or injuries of whoever we do convince to come here.
Former footballer Jan Aage Fjortoft, who is now a journalist specialising in the Bundesliga, has warned Redknapp not to expect the same player who starred for Spurs. Now 31, van der Vaart plays for Bundesliga side Hamburg, and Fjortoft took to Twitter to say the following: "Looks like Redknapp and QPR want van der Vaart again. Sorry Harry! This is not the van der Vaart you had at Tottenham." Jan Aage Fjortoft ‏@JanAageFjortoft Looks like Redknapp and #QPR wants van der Vaart again. Sorry Harry! This is not the van der Vaart you had at Tottenham When it comes to insight re the Bundesliga there's no one I trust more than Fjortoft.
I wouldn't want him in the slightest. We'd be back to square one with this sort of signing. Jenas/SWP/Johnson/Zamora/Mbia/Samba/Granero/Anton.F/Park/Cesar/Dyer/Luke.Young Bad bad fits for QPR. The problem is, people feel they "know" these celebrities- so don't hold them to the same standards they would other players. Take away the name, and VDV is just a 31 year old who's career is tailing off, and would consider QPR a huge step down. We're a fantastic club in the world's best division- so we should be able to attract more promising recruits than this. If it gets to the final day of window...then maybe VDV's worth a punt, but we certainly shouldn't be actively pursuing him. It's bizarre really. We recruit celebrities for 2 seasons in the PL, and finish 17th and 20th. We then fix our recruitment policy and finally have some success- getting promoted. Now we're back up- some people want to revert to celebs again (mainly those on WATRBS it must be said). It's clearly not a "winning strategy". The minor successes don't compensate for the major failures. Every time someone tries to justify a JoleonLescott, they're saying..."go on...lets stick another quid in the slot machine. Uncle Tone will lend us it.."
