Been doing the maths on the purchase costs of the current squad and to my calculations, the club have paid just short of 9.5 mil for the whole squad. The squad is made up of per today, 34 players and while I understand that the wage bill may be higher than some premiership clubs, I find it interesting that there a good few journalists, reporters, TV pundits who seem to be under the impression that we have and I quote, * spent heavily in the transfer market*.
To me this makes our achievements over the past 18 months or so, even more impressive !
Anybody know what the weekly wage bill is for the squad compared to other Prem clubs ?

Micnorwil! It is very impressive!! We did very well in the 9 days was it, in the last transfer window once TonyF came in, and we hadn't spent much before that. This window is beginning to look promising too!

Surely we have spent more than 9.5 million on our squad? SWP was 4 mil, Faurlin 3.5, Ferdinand around 3.5, that there is over 9.5 already...

Wasn't the 3 something for Faurlin the bragging amount supposedly given out to make us happy, that had a big part in getting us into the whole f*kkin mess with the FA? I understood that the actual amount was a small fraction of this!

I'm unsure Os, but even without that, surely we paid more than 9.5 considering taarabt was also a million, kenny was around 500k, mackie was a couple of hundred k. Now Onuoha was a few million, it's higher than 9.5 I feel

He cost us about £200,000 with add ons. £3.5 was the figure touted by Rangers to appease fans who were unhappy with the little amount of money being spent. And which is what brought about the FA investigation.

9,5 million sounds about right to me looking at the squad before todays Onouhu purchase, which I thought Micnorwil meant anyway!

Yeah I assumed as much with Micnorwil's post. I'm more surprised if anything, it's a fantastic achievement from the club, particularly if we did pay as little as £200,000 for Faurlin which is an absolute steal.

What really gets my goat is the pundits/Jouro's have been saying this about us from the beginning of the season all the time stating that out of the promoted teams we have really splashed the cash and that maybe true in terms of wages but both Norwich and Swansea have spent approx 10 mil in the close season I believe our initial layout was considerably less, not counting this window.

We have paid more than double the £9,5m for the current squad.

    Some (shocking) examples:
(numbers are aprox but by no means exagerated)

    Rob Hulse £1 mill
    Tommy Smith £750k
    Lee Cook £1 mill
    Akos Buszaky £500k
    Hogan Ephraim £500-800k
    Heidar Helguson £500-800k
    Luke Young £1,75 mill
    Matthew Connolly £1 mill
    Armand Traore £2 mill
    Jamie Mackie £300-500k
    Alejandro Faurlin £250-500k
    DJ Campbell £1,25 mill
    Adel Taarabt £1 mill
    Fitz Hall £1 mill
    Bradley Orr £750k
    Paddy Kenny £750k 13,3
    Anton Ferdinand £4 mill
    SWP £4 mill
    Nedum Onouha £2,75 mill

    Net spend: £24,050 mill - 25,1 mill

Not much compared to the established Premier League sides but an absolute fortune compared to the other promoted sides (Swansea and Norwich).

Adds up doesn't it! I But about 8 or 9 million of this is for players bought well before we got near the PL who I didn't think of. We should be looking to sell some of these, if we can.

I forgot Dave, HOW COULD I?! <laugh> He cost £800k as well, joined four years ago and has cost the club between £2m-£3m in wages...

micnorwil, I'm not sure if you're talking about the 25 man squad or everyone on our payroll.

    *Ahem*

Sorry, just back from being sick as a dog, after remembering that we splashed out 4 million pounds on Fitz Hall, Rob Hulse, Lee Cook and Matt Connelly.

It was the whole squad Norway, away from the latest acquisition ! The site I used though may not be 100% accurate. Still, the more I think about it the more impressive I am with NW and what he managed to do for the club, given the fact his job was not made any easier by the previous owners. Utmost respect to the man !
