I have family ties in the Stoke On Trent area and was taken to see Vale as a kid in the old Anglo Italian Cup final at the (old) Wembley (Steve Guppy played for them). They got thrashed but, considering they are a team in the same city as an established PL side and only down the road from Manchester their fan base and passion is great. Id be really sad if they disappeared.......

i think its time for all the clubs to come back into the working class world again and pay proper wages to the players instead of the ridiculous ammounts that they have been dishing out over the last ten years or so

I have no sympathy whatsoever, for clubs that spend beyond their means. Take Pompey, for example. Do you really think their fans questioned where their money was coming from, back in the good times a few years ago? No would be the answer. No, they were too busy enjoying life in the Prem, in Europe & winning cups. Good times they couldn't afford. Now look at em..

Well, TOUGH I say! You have no, or rather LIMITED sympathy from me. Some may say the supporters are the innocents, but again I point out the fact that they loved it whilst it lasted & weren't complaining at the time.

i take your point jenny but take wycombe for instance we are losing a million a year for a club our size that appalling and most of our supporters are fed up with the way our club is run by the owner and we have hardly been glory hunters but theres not a lot we can do about it

Aye, I hear ya & maybe I do have more sympathy for us lesser clubs than others. But the likes of Pompey, Leeds, Bradford & Rangers will not get any. Add to that list Vale, but that is again based on the sole fact that they are indeed, scum. LOL.

Interestingly & with regards to Hayes, Wrexham (another of our most fierce rivals) wanted their (now) ex-Chairman/Owner Geoff Moss out. They boycotted, petitioned, do pretty much everything a bunch of supporters could do (legally & illegally, if one was to believe the rumours).

What action have Wycombe supporters taken?

That simply won't happen though, will it? As long as there's a free market, there's going to be clubs willing to pay the stupid amounts of money to players in order to get them to play for them. Any teams that don't get left behind and can't compete.

Jenny, do you seriously think that Pompey fans had anything to do wih the direction the club took?
Also, I can't imagine they knew quite what they were being led towards. Owners with apparent wealth leading them to a taste of top flight football. I am not surprised they loved it, but sadly for them they have been left in the lurch.
I have no sympathy whatsoever with the club especially hearing that they went and outbid other clubs on wages to land players this year, but the majority of fans are oblivious to the finances and shouldn't be expected to police a clubs books

Spot on Slasher,As you implied the trouble is that All clubs are really the fans not the current ownership, the manager or the players for that manner so when whoever in charge of the finances drives the club into that ground the support feels the real loss as the others can move on.
Football finance just dont add up whether in th SPL, the preimership league or non-league. Can City or Chelsea etc survive if they lose their current owners or those championship clubs spending beyond their means in an attempt to go up.I sometimes feel we are all on a list for the chop its just when not if the wheels will come off
