Just about to get the coat on and set off for the Saturday fix. Hard one today given our last 4 games at Home Park against this team. And an ex might be playing which is never a good sign for us. Still, if you are going to achieve anything you have to beat all comers. Hopefully be raising a glass in a few hours time back at No.1.

Hayes is apparently struggling to make the team (though not ruled out) and with the departure of Banton hopefully we wont suffer the curse of the former player. Although they haven't conceded many goals away this season(8?) they have recently sold their keeper leaving a choice between a young inexperienced one and the 40odd year old 'Barry'. Quietly confident of a 3-1. Looks through my front window like a fairly still and overcast afternoon at HP. Will give it another 20 mins and take a gentle stroll up there.

With three ex-Argyle players playing for Wycombe W......I expect the result was inevitable.

Event report- I won't grace it with 'match' report as the entire afternoon had nothing to do with football.
The afternoon started with a 5 mins delay as the 'referee' was concerned with the state of one of the sprinkler heads(I think). Nothing obviously wrong from where I sat and I suspect it might have been a comment from ainsworth in retaliation to DA's concern about WW wearing GPS earlier in the season. Anyway, once the game eventually kicked off it only took 3 mins before we were 1-0 down. An old fashioned goal mouth scramble ended with the ball in the net -no idea what really happened, or who was at fault, or if it should have been a freekick to us-will have to watch the replay. And then the shenanigans started. A two footed chest high lunge by one of theirs went unpunished by the totally inept officials , not even a free kick. Their keeper went down injured but after lengthy treatment decided to recover, however a couple of minutes later he collapsed again following a goalkick which went straight to Wylde, Wylde crossed and Reubin was faced with a pretty much open goal but managed to miss the target. After another lengthy stoppage the goalkeeper was dully subbed for the 46 year old Barry Richardson who was equally as well versed as the rest of the Wycombe cheats. The rest of the first half was memorable for a few things: PCH was booked for a perfectly good tackle on Wylde -even Luke was laughing before he took the free kick. 4th official put 5 mins extra time on the board-Derek Adams complained and it was changed to 9, which was probably a more accurate reflection of the truth. A couple of minutes into the stoppage time an Argyle player got fouled , a Wycombe player fell over and a melee ensued, McHugh was booked as was Hayles- the ref still only played the 9.
Second half same as the first, Wycombe were disgraceful. On the odd occasion when football broke out Argyle were far the better team, Mchugh missed at least two good chances -opting for placement instead of power. Reid might have had a penalty but didn't. The ref and Lyndhurst linesman were clueless . The ref had on a number of occasions pulled play back for a free kick after playing advantage to Wycombe. Inexplicably when Carey was fouled on the edge of the box he waved play on but when it came to nothing didn't bother to award the free kick. Nothing much else football wise to report. Wycombe cheated their way to the 94th minute and stole the 3 points.
At the full time whistle there was an altercation near the tunnel- not sure what happened but some are suggestion DA and Ainsworth didn't shake hands and it all kicked off. Needless to say the players all got involved and the gormless ref just stood near the center circle and did nothing.
    Points.
    1. The ref should never be in charge of a professional game again. He had absolutely no control from start to finish.
    2. Wycombe and their manager are a complete disgrace. I would hate to be a Wycombe fan. I don't really even care that we lost-we weren't beaten in a game of football but just cheated by a bunch of people who have no concept of how to play the game, sportsmanship or entertainment. A horrible team that I hope disappear out of existence as soon as possible.
    3. Not going to criticise the team too much other than to say they need to learn how to play against spoilers. Reid was poor-the rest were alright and my MOTM goes to Wylde or Nelson.

Have watched Argyle for a long time now; win, lose or draw I normally enjoy the spectacle(otherwise I wouldn't go). Today was just a sad example of someone (Ainsworth aide and abetted by the ref) who thinks he has done a good job by winning. I cant find anything positive to say about him or his team.

Write it off and move on-still 9 clear of 4th which is the most important thing. Looking forward to Huish park next week, another new ground for me and the boy.

All I will add to the above is the goal was not really a goal. They surrounded Luke with players so he couldn't move. There were so many fouls involved that the corner should never even have been taken. The official today was the worst by a million miles I have ever had to witness. So much so that if it was ever to be revealed there was match fixing involved I would not be shocked. I am hard pressed to find anything positive to say about the game. They cheated their way to a result aided by a Referee. I don't like to accuse officials of cheating but I'm sorry I have to here. Somebody should check this out with a bookies. We could and should have won this game easily. However I suspect if we had put it in the net the Ref or lino would have found a way to discount it. I have a sort of soft spot for Wycombe fans an get on well with them on 606. I don't want to fall out with them but will have to telll them my opinion honestly as I see it. Ainsworth is a disgrace as a manager if that is what he thinks is acceptable tactics and play.

Sorry you lads have taken it so badly. From what I can make out, the ref was a total disgrace and was probably the root cause for the ill feelings that broke out. Let's face it, you could have had a hat full but your players missed some sitters. No need for us to fall out over it though. Good luck for the rest of the season, including auto promotion. Put today behind us. <cheers>

It wasn't just the Ref Ron it was almost everything that was wrong. Your Manager is shocking if he thinks today was a legit way to get a result. It was blatant cheating and not even just gamesmanship. He must instill the tactics into the players so must be responsible for all of the time wasting stuff. Your players did nothing but chat at the Ref all afternoon. He though was so bad it was embarrassing. Somebody should seriously look at this bloke. I can accept losing even if I don't like it and am disappointed but to have to watch stuff like today, see my team shafted by everyone and everything takes a bit of swallowing. Wycombe were shameful.

    We won't fall out though.

Hope not. But before anyone slags off our manager any more I would like to say, I have met him a few times and I doubt there is a nicer, down to earth, friendly bloke; certainly amongst football managers. He is passionate and as honest as the day is long. Something, or more likely someone, must have got his back up. He is a great manager and we think the world of him and wouldn't swap him for anyone.

If you had seen our players against Villa you would have more respect for them. Shame about today but the ref should not have been on the pitch.

Not going to fall out with any fans Ron but whatever your personal opinion of yr so called manager is he does a great disservice to your club. The carp he spouted after the match plus his unwillingness to shake Derek Adam's hand (despite winning) just shows what a t??sser he is. Just my opinion of course.

Wondered what the hell was going on too as followed it by text commentary. Was thinking a point would be lucky before kickoff. Disgraceful what was going on then but really only ourselves to blame as we missed a few sitters I believe.

I have never witnessed a greater travesty of a "football" match. Sensible has hit the nail on the end by saying that the corner that led to the goal should never have been taken. Whilst it's normal for goalkeepers to be crowded, this was a step beyond fairness of any kind and was clearly planned. One Wycombe player took up station gripping the nearpost with his arm fully extended. That made it quite impossible for any Argyle player to defend the short corner which got flicked on into the melee. The intention was absolutely clear and right in the lino's line of sight. There was easily enough contact to merit a freekick but the craven hearted tosser did nothing.

Then shortly afterwards, there was the flying head-height kung fu kick that nearly took McHugh's (?) head off. Not a foul apparently, presumably because it missed by 6 inches and he wasn't actually decapitated.

Neither was there any attampt to rein in the truly awful timewasting. Had he booked one or both of the fullbacks for wasting time at throw-ins or the several Wycombe cheats that took forever at free kicks, we might have had a game of football instead of a travesty.

No wonder there were scuffles: the officals abdicated all control over the game and merely let Wycombe run it themselves.

Rant over. We were by far the better side: how Wycombe are where they are in the table, God only knows. But, we had the chances to win it and didn't take them and despite having McHugh and Threkheld in the starting 11, looked at risk from Wycombe's hoofball, which shouldn't be the case.

I've since watched a vid of some of the key points and have to say the goal isn't done justice by what is shown. It misses all of the above which makes it seem fair enough. It also doesn't show the time wasting but it does show the incident at the end of the game between managers. I didn't even know there was one until I tuned into the internet stuff which was talking about it. Having watched this a couple of times on full screen I cannot see what Ainsworth's problem was with Adams, It appeared that Adams walked along the touchline with hand extended to shake. About 6 feet away Ainsworth seemed to change and refused to take the hand and pushed himself into Admas face trying to prevent him from walking past. He continued to rant in Adams face until pushed away by others.

I just cannot see what Ainswroth's problem was. His side had gotten every decision worth having all day long and were allowed to get away with all of the time wasting they wanted. The referee was so onesided towards Wycombe it was embarrassing. It is being suggested that Adams had said something to wind Ainsworth up but I can't see evidence of that at all. To be honest the Wycombe players mirrored their Manager. They whinged and whinged all day long and their skipper should have walked for his involvement in the McHugh thing. You can quite clearly see McHugh won the ball. Several Wycombe players came from a long way away to get involved and create a melee. That's what got McHugh booked but their Captain pushed and shoved having made the involvement quite deliberate when it had nothing to do with him. Deliberately trying to get a player sent off?? I think so. I have seen the lyndhurst lino at our's before. He is the one with the habit of signing behind his back at the crowd. He did it several times yesterday when he'd been given a bit of stick. I think he got the booking confirmed and I also think he did it deliberately as well to get his own back. He is a truely shocking lino and should be put out to grass as soon as. The Referee lost it from minute 3 after Wycombe had been allowed their goal. How many times did he warn them about time wasting and then do nothing. You cannot just stand there looking at your wristwatch in an obvious jesture for them to move it along and then do nothing at all when they don't. He missed every important moment in the match. He is supposed to be an experienced Referee who has been around the leagues for years. Well like his lino he should hang his whistle up and if he won't off his own back then it should be done for him. We have seen some terrible Refs this season but he was by far the worst. Infact I can't remember a worse one ever in all my years of watching.

Having said all of the above hp_bedoboy is right. We should have won this one easily and they only have themselves to blame for screwing up easy chances it was harder to miss than score from. That was down to our players not the officials, Wycombe or their manager. Adams also got it wrong by playing Reid and leaving Brunt on the bench. Said this last time and will say it again, drop Reid not the player in form. It was there for all to see the difference when Brunt came on. I keep hearing that Reid cannot be fit but I believe his heart is not in it now as he isn't No.1. He needs to be loved and if he isn't getting the plaudits he throws his dummy out. Despite his 2 seasons of being a 20 goal scorer he isn't my kind of player. Not a team man and if he got sold I wouldn't lose any sleep.

Well reading all the above, it is a true reflection of the game and some Wycombe fans think its sour grapes as we lost. Not the issue losing, it was the way these pricks won the game.. The ref should be removed immediately and give Wycombe back the brown envelope. No wonder Adams was up set with that Buffoon of a Wycombe manager.. Hope fully they will not make the playoffs and start to fall down the league.. as they are not a side worthy of Promotion..

You are right about Brunt Sensible, he came on and gave Wycombe some of their own back and suddenly they looked uneasy.

Half the offsides the Lyndhurst lino gave were more or less right in front of me a bit outside the line of the penalty box where all the key action occurs. I can therefore say as a matter of fact that in several key cases, he and his flag hove into view AFTER the incident had happened i.e. he was not keeping up with play and was in no position to give the decisions he did.

On the goal, the video is not far off the viewpoint the referee had from the Old Grandstand side. All the initial obstruction took place at the Lyndhurst side goalpost i.e. the lino was looking straight down the barrel at it and still did nothing.

Not a good weekend for Argyle......they just need to put it behind them now and knuckle down and sought out the problems that have developed since their spate of injuries started.

They have 17 games to go and should concentrate on getting the points that will help them finish in the top three.....if they play to their abilities that should be achievable.

One thing I would say is that rarely have I witnessed a game that has caused so many people to kick off in a fuming sort of way. Whilst it is acknowledged that we should have won anyway and we are to blame for that, the amount of people up in arms about the opposition is unpresidented. They can't all be wrong surely.

Exactly, its not sour grapes as some are saying. They are a disgrace, the FL should open their eyes and look at things.. They are so busy opening Envelopes i suspect.. It must be because we are so far away from them all and send the ****test officials this way.. They should be home in their greenhouses watering the plant's..

I've been looking at the Wycombe press coverage of Saturday's game and its aftermath. You'll be interested in the BucksFreePress' take on the Reid penalty claim:

With nine minutes of injury time called, and Plymouth pushing for an equaliser, the home side had a strong shout for a penalty turned down.

A powerful run saw Reid break through the heart of the Wycombe defence only to be dragged back by Jason McCarthy as he set himself to shoot.

A falling Reid managed to get a shot away, which Richardson saved well with his legs, but he had every right to feel aggrieved as the Southampton loanee clearly pulled him back.

McCarthy would surely have seen red had the referee seen the infringement and was lucky to survive.

They'd be bleddy lucky notdistant. That Ref didn't see anything wrong done to a green shirt all afternoon. As for the lino.... phfff!!! I have a theory that the Referee Association have a bet on Argyle not getting a penalty all season at fantastic odds. I think they are nailed on to collect myself.

I quite like the Wycombe bunch on not606 who have always made me welcome on their board. I've said it once and will repeat that I have no wish to fall out with any of them and nor do I want to enter into any slagging match. We are much more polite than that. I've just been reading a pasoti thread started supposedly by a Wycombe supporter in Devon. Now, for all the classless posts on other forums that I've heard about, this one has to be the worst possible attempt at a wind up. Defend all things at all costs and is even accusing Argyle as a team of being unsporting and classless. Wycombe apparently were guilty of nothing. If ever there was an attempt to get people to post things less polite shall we say then this has to be it. Trolling of the worst kind and I would have thought it better to just ignore what Argyle people have to say, take the points and move on without shoving it in their faces.
