An entertaining match at a chilly Home Park saw Argyle return to winning ways and regain the last spot in the play off positions.

It was an evenly matched affair for large periods with chances for both sides in the first half. Lewis Alassandra should have put the greens ahead when clean though and only the keeper to beat-he tried to lift it over the goalies head but only succeeded in lamely passing it into his arms. Not too much later and argyle finally took the lead , the ball broke to O'conner who timed his shot well from outside the box and fired the ball into the bottom corner. Tarieq H-D was outstanding down the left, both from a defensive point of view but also going forward and Reuben should really have scored when played in by a pin point pass but he was inexcusably offside. Northampton were a decent side but also well versed in the dark arts. They knew every trick in the box, including knees in the back and blocking off players behind the ref's back. Unfortunately the ref fell for pretty much all their tricks resulting in a number of bookings for Argyle but no action taken against the away players. Even their keeper wasn't booked when conceding a free kick for handball outside the box. Conversely O'conner saw yellow for removing his shirt during the goal celebration even though he has a superman t shirt on underneath.

Second half more of the same but Argyle inevitably started to sit back and Northampton pressed and the game became a lot scrappier and rather tense. All was soon resolved when Lewis made up for his earlier bad miss. Talbot and Reuben combined to set LA free and he coolly rounded the keeper and passed the ball into an empty net. McHugh was rather oddly replaced by Blizzard, and Brunt and Banton replaced Rueben and Lewis towards the end. Mellor, B Reid and Talbot were all carrying knocks towards the end and might have enjoyed a rest.

Talbot also had a good game in a new position in midfield including running half the length of the pitch doing 'keepy uppies' and posed a real threat going forward as well as breaking up the play in midfield.

The official MOTM went to Luke for reasons unknown as he didnt really have a save to make. My candidates would be any of Oconner, Talbot, T H-D.

An all round enjoyable spectacle with Argyle deserving the hard won 3 points.

No arguments from me regarding the match bits lyndhurst. Northampton are, lets say, a very physical side. To the point of being quite a dirty side and probably the worst I've seen this season. However, they aren't a bad side and I can quite easily see why they have been on a run. Talbot was MOM for me and I thought he was superb in the role he was given. The beeb stats say they had more shots than us and more on target. However I also agree that I didn't recall Luke being called on to make much of a save all game. If the stats are right then the shots were very weak. Make no mistake though we deserved this result and earned it the very hard way.

I reserve a special mention for the Referee. Now I have commented on how poor they have been quite often this season but this one needs highlighting. He was totally and utterly rediculous. He let so much go without any sort of punishment at all. How their keeper could pick the ball up outside the box and receive no punishment at all is beyond me. How their Centre Half could foul and foul all game leading with his elbow in almost every challenge and not get a card or even a foul against most times is beyond me. Infact, I would normally defend a Ref from cries of bias or as fans would have it arrived on the away bus but in this case it would be hard to defend. He gave us nothing all game and I half expected a penalty against and a red for us somewhere. I would go so far as to say he almost cheated and that is a serious thing to say about an official. Because of him it makes the result and points all the sweeter. I hope we never see him again at Home Park.

You sound more incensed about the ref than me sensible. He was , without a doubt, very poor but I think I was n'hampton's ability to convince him they were doing nothing wrong was the most irritating. I too expected to have someone sent off for a second yellow (which made the first sub even more baffling).

Still, 3 points and the table is looking a lot more healthy now. With a run of fixtures that suggests we should fear no one, we should comfortably finish in the play offs....but then again this is Argyle!

He must have been given a Brown envelope before kick off..

Wonder what the stevenage manager will make of it when they play them, as he thought we were physical..

Just for one game I'd love to be able to get into a Ref's head and see what their thought process is like. The fouls were often blatant and you would have to be in the dressing room not to see them yet he still waved play on. I'm not known for being physically stroppy but I would love to have run on the pitch and punched this bloke. Mind you he probably wouldn't have noticed anyway. Don't know if they still have a game with Stevenage Joe but if they have old Weasley will implode and I hope they get this Ref to help them on their way.

yes the weasel will be a bit unhappy and the same ref would top it... I wonder how they manage to find these awful creatures that they call refetees? they also get good money for making a mess of what they do.,

Three good points today.....but also some very good results going our way.

Who would of bet on Bury losing at home to Oxford .

Luton also losing at home against Morecambe.

    Shrewsbury also drawing at home.

Southend and Wycombe drawing another good result for us,

Newport losing was great....unfortunate that it was against Stevenage.

Burton only beat Hartlepool by one goal.

So we pulled points back from most teams at the top.

Could also nearly forgive Exeter for winning at Carlisle.......well maybe not.

I don't much get this Exeter thing to be honest as I don't care what results they get apart from when we play them. Thing is as others have said, this is Argyle. Anything can happen and next week we could end up further down the league because all the results went the wrong way instead of right.

Trouble is Plym we get up because of a win and then a week later all hopes are dashed again. Last season about now we were knocking on the door and the season ended with a whimper. It's not a wonder Argyle fans are generally a despondent bunch. I will be honest and say I went today without much in the way of hope. Around 1000 didn't go from last time. I don't think anyone is going to get carried away unless they are on the coach to Wembley and that doesn't look that likely. But we could hit a run and who knows.......

I watched the football league show for league two today but to be fair I'm not sure why. Any mention of the goalie handling the ball? Nah. Mention of a shirt being taken off by an Argyle player? Oh yes. More than 15 seconds shown? Nah. The show is rubbish but I did take in the Stevenage match. What an absolute state their pitch is in if indeed it qualifies to be called one. It is truely shocking and they should be made to do something about it.

Stevenage is a **** hole so it does not surprise me the pitch state. That show is garbage.. watched it online.. complete ****e. Did you see that Farce at Villa last night, now what will happen to them? Headline was Football Violence? were.. it was people running on the pitch. i never saw any fighting or violence, Now they say all those involved will be dealt with.. **** me there was a few thousand and i can't se Villa would want to ban them all.. think of the revenue lost!
That ref was related to the ref at Home park it seems as he was total ****e, see the 2 sendings off? who are these buffoons trying to referee and spoiling football matches every week when people pay good money to watch it.. The tossers running it should be accountable.. to many bungs about!! rant over..

It also seems another referee cocked up at Dundee today.. sending the wrong player off. Why does that happen, they need to get Tv replays started soon.. its becoming a farce.. the ref should be sent off for making a mistake.. but then you would require 6 refs per match.. for the fu ck ups they make..

To be honest I don't mind so much a Ref making a mistake. Everyone is human and there is nobody alive who has never made one. What I can't take as in the one we had on Saturday is total incompetance where they seem to deliberately make no decisions one way. We will never get video stuff in the lower leagues. We don't have Sky camera's from every angle.

I think there were some outbreaks of violence about although not out and out fighting. Seats ripped out and thrown. Some people are just morons. How anyone thinks running on the pitch is acceptable ever is a bit beyond me. I felt like running on and punching the Ref yesterday but I wouldn't do it really. It was a bit like a scene from the 70s and 80s. This seems to be spreading world wide let alone over here. I would hate to see it escalate. On the other hand it's hard to curb the enthusiasm sometimes and I would not like to see the game become sterile either. People need to remember though that supporting your team is fine, a bit of banter is fine but that is as far as it needs to go.
