What happens when you take a paper the size of the chronicle, and add a player from a by gone age? This.

While I am apprehensions to defend the guy as he has not been made manager, and at this point hasn't even been contacted, let's air some reality and get rid of this absurdly negative environment around this club gone.

Remi Garde was Lyon manager for 3 years, Lyon happens to be one of these European clubs that people who are outside of the country occasionally peak at and say "Oh they must be good, they're up the league." Remi Garde however did not win trophies at this "very good French team." he must be terrible! But do not let Champions League qualification and the league table fool you, Lyon is a very difficult place to manage. While they're not poor, they more so than the other teams in the league rely on youth to come through the ranks, while both Monaco and PSG are owned by very very wealthy men that can outspend them heavily. So to keep that side in and around the top four is not an easy task, and one that Garde did very well. Not to mention some sexy football in the champions league. And let it be said, that the too prior managers of Lyon, Gerard Houlier and Claude Puel both did far worse jobs with the same time.

Steve Bruce however yes does know the premier league, has however accomplished the cut and paste thing about 65 other managers in the football leagues have done at the moment. Gotten a team promoted a few times, always ending in the sack or him walking out before it happened. I was not against him coming to Newcastle, but to claim his CV is far superior to others, for me is moronic. Going on CV's he'd be bottom of the list, and that's the bare honest truth.

Yes, if we ever where to hire Garde, we would be taking a gamble but isn't it about time that Newcastle United took a positive gamble? We've had years now of utterly boring appointments or failures before they where even hired. I for one am happy that we are even being mentioned with Managers like Tuchel, Garde and others. We are finally looking like we may be taking it serious.

And I'm sorry, if Mick Quinn and I'm going to say it, love the bloke but has to be said Shearer, are more interested in just slagging off the board, or in Mick Quinn's case getting his mate a better job, I for one think they've spent too long with the press and it's not the first time our loyal former players have fanned the fires of fan discontent, Rob Lee during our relegation season had a good crack at it as well infuriating.

This is all totally irrelevant really as we all know that whatever or whoever Newcastle United need they are not going to get it under Ashley.
It really is a cheap shot to say that Newcastle need a manager and not a puppet, as anyone who will not tow the line and smile for the cameras whilst doing so isn't going to get anywhere near the job.
It's cheap and lazy journalism to state the bleeding obvious whilst trying to portray yourself as some kind of expert.

Micky Quinn is a odious fat **** who knows nothing and I can't stand anything that comes out of his hideously obese mouth. He doesn't give a **** about us. He only talks about us when he has exhausted everything else about his beloved Liverpool. A chimp, strategically shaved, sat down and smearing his faeces over a computer screen would make more sense than that vile Scouse parade float.

Whilst I see no reason to appoint someone like Garde over the likes of Howe, Clement or Hoddle (more so the first two), I'd take him over Steve Bruce every day of the ****ing week!

I do have a problem with the whole Garde or Tuchel thing. Like if you are English you can't be exciting or play modern football. Howe in particular would be an excellent choice. I doubt he'd fancy the job but I think there is a very strong argument to at least try. If we are not going to give young qualified English coaches/managers a chance at the top table in this country then I have a massive problem with the league. We are hurting ourselves. Fair enough if there are no decent candidates but there are,

Tricky though isn't it because it matters not what any of us think the criteria should be, Mike will have his own. I'll be shocked if Mike currently doesn't just have a shortlist of one. That one being John Carver.

Yes, I read this and thought it was utterly out of touch. If anything needs sorting, aside from a head coach, it's the local journalism. At the very least we should approach the appointment of Remi Garde with cautious optimism. He has a sack full of experience, he's played in England, he's won stuff (even winning the French Cup as manager) and is young, continental and won't baulk at the structure we have in place.

Or does Mick Quinn not remember the days of appointing those who had "won stuff"? Souness, Dalglish, Gullit - amongst the worst we've ever seen. SBR was and will always be utterly unique - a true geordie and a legendary manager. Steve Bruce could win back to back Champions League, but turning down the Toon job, what, 3 or 4 times? Some geordie....

It's a fairly bold appointment. It's hopeful, in that he's not a bottom feeder. It's considered, given his familiarity with our favourite hunting ground and his experience with Sporting Directors. Nowt wrong with it. He should be given plenty, plenty time. If we put up with Pardew for four years, the least we can give this guy is the same. Vive La Revolution!

Vive la Eddie Howe. More than capable, knows the football here, plays an exciting attacking brand of modern football, used to working on a shoestring and English! Give the man a chance. No more of a risk than someone like Garde or Tuchel.

I'm willing to give him a chance don't get me wrong. It's just we all know he wouldn't want the role.

I think he probably looks at it and thinks "why Newcastle?" Afterall he is likely to be in the PL next season with Bournemouth. They could have a lot of fun the way they play. It has not been traditionally easy or fun to work under the current regime. Either through a lack of support from above or an admittedly permanently restless fanbase. Throw in uprooting his family...
