Interesting article on the BBC website about players that are still available having been released by their clubs and not picked up by any other. They list a you can get them for free XI GK: Richard Kingson RB: Stuart Parnaby LB: Jlloyd Samuel CB: Matthew Upson CB: Sol Campbell MD: Jason Koumas MD: Boudewijn Zenden MD: Thomas Hitzlsperger CF: James McFadden CF: Marcus Bent CF: John Carew Okay, we might not want some of them but Hitzlsperger, Upson, McFadden are all worth a punt.
John Carew: well past his best, slower than continental drift, but - who knows - an option as a back up to Zamora, if the mystery striker's club turn down our latest offer. Stranger signings have been made (mostly by Lawrie Sanchez, admittedly).
Agreed - wouldn't want Carew but I am interested that no one has picked up Hitzlsperger - apparently Sunderland made an offer and his lawyer told him to wait as a better one would come along - which it hasn't.
Had a look at the full list and there are one or two that might be useful for the squad, but starters? No.
Agree completely. Carew is one of those players who performs well in the last six months before renegotiating his contract, then he falls off the map again. Bend and Upson are a surprise to me. I've always rated them highly, but perhaps their wage demands are the problem. McFadden would have been a nice signing four years ago.
