Bristol City This transfer decision could cost Bristol City their spot in the Championship this season. It is safe to say that the sale of Aden Flint to fellow Championship side Middlesbrough certainly caused some unrest amongst Bristol City fans; for me, it was the final nail in the coffin for the Robins as a Championship side. Having reportedly previously turned down bids from top flight side Brighton and Hove Albion, it gave hope that their captain would be staying put and might just guide his team to the Promised Land. But it was as if the end of the season signalled the end of all hope for the Robins. Allowing Bobby Reid to join rivals Cardiff City after finishing the Championship’s third top goal scorer could be pardoned, as at least he was getting a move to the Premier League, while selling Flint to Boro makes you question Bristol City’s ambition to the greatest extent. Flint played over 200 times for Bristol City in his five year spell at the club, and will be remembered as nothing less than a loyal servant and valiant leader, but selling him for a measly reported £5m to a side who nipped them to a play-off spot is unthinkable and unforgivable. For those Robins fans who thought a play-off run was on the cards as late in the season as April, it is a complete contrast in emotion now that arguably your two best players will be playing elsewhere next season, and no sign of replacements inbound. Despite finishing 11th, Lee Jonson’s side were just eight points short of a chance at top flight football last season, and if they had kept hold of Aden Flint, would likely be considered threats going into this season. But, as we edge closer to the new kick off of the new season, one can only see them struggling. Without their goal threat in the shape of Bobby Reid, the Robins struggled in front of goal. And without Flint in the heart of their defence, they seemed open at the back. It will be up to the remaining squad to give everything they have going into this coming season, but without their star men, are likely to struggle. Whether it was Lee Johnson’s decision to allow Aden Flint to go or not, you have to question the decision, the destination and the price tag https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/t...y-their-spot-in-the-championship-this-season/
I don't necessarily agree with the article, to me it appears our replacements are all sensible, experienced and quality replacements and we still have time for MA & LJ to sign further additions, the only worry is the rumour that we may have signed a few 'Sick Notes' but we must have confidence in our management team but they do have a bit of history of signing some failures. With Bobby we didn't have much choice, he wouldn't sign a contract and we had to protect ourselves, Bryan and Pack are still dodgy but there is an element of truth about selling Flint to M/boro but beggars can't be choosers and LJ needed the money to make changes. I think LJ has chosen the correct route, we will all see what happens when the season gets going, 10 games in will gives an idea if the route chosen is the correct one.
It’s not all down to LJ. Sometimes the player himself has the final say - look at Maynard when Leicester offered £7m - he refused to go and refused to sign for us. We got a reasonable price for both Flint and Reid. Flint nearly went last season too if you remember - to Birmingham. This article is doom-mongering and I suspect the author wrote something similar when we embarked on last season without Tammy. I would tell the stragglers to commit to the club now or to rot on the bench. But that’s me. I like commitment.
R&W Got your season ticket then Ps - I think Flint was different to Maynard as hasn't he recently signed a 4 year contract so we held the whip hand. It was an LJ judgement and we'll see how it goes. Whether letting Flint leave for Webster, who by all accounts has injury problems, or the useless Bailey Wright only time will tell. All I hope is Nathan Baker stays fit or not suspended.
Fair comment about the season ticket RP. No - I will be going to a similar number of games this season I expect - about 10. For the record I wanted Flint to stay - but our demise towards the end of last season was due to a leaky defence - we were scoring - but conceding too. Maybe something had to change? Time will tell........
I’ve got my season ticket? Look at this way if you’re dreams come true that it goes tits up then you WON’T be there to see it will you pinky
