Name a player you backed when those around you at the game were giving stick and tell me why you rated the player.... 1. Adrian Forbes The lads I used to go with around this time, for some reason, took against him....although this feeling wasn't universal I do remember drunken conversations with other Swans fans who would tell me their preferred XI and not include Forbes. Often putting Leon on the right wing. Proof that we all see the game completely differently. Forbes became my favourite player in the season that we were promoted from League 2. First name on my team sheet. He was industrious. Never stopped running, didn't seem to get tired, and competed for every ball. I thought he tackled very well and won far more headers than he had a right to, what with being a hobbit and all. Although he wasn't an attacking threat say on the level of Nathan Dyer, he could be relied upon to put a decent cross in given half a yard and was a good finisher I feel...when he had a chance to shoot I felt he was going to hit the target at least and he rarely disappointed me. For me Forbes made the runs I was willing him to make in my head....whether that meant they were intelligent runs or not I can't say ....and his industry helped to drive our team forward and retain possession (in the days when we didn't enjoy 60+% on a regular basis this was key to my liking him so much). If I were to ever meet him I'd thank him for all of that hard work he put in up and down the right wing in front of the North Bank. Adrian Forbes take a bow.
Rory fallon. Got a lot of stick from a lot of fans but I always thought he was great! Could literally bring anything down on his chest with immaculate control, was very strong on the ball and great in the air. I don't think we really used him as we should have done. He scored 14 when he joined us mid season from Swindon then only scored like 4 for the rest of the season. But he did score a belting overhead kick at the millennium! I liked him, a lot didn't. Strange isn't it.
Leon Knight Thought he was a great player, got hat trick on his first game for us, thought he was going to be the one to get us promoted. Was gutted when he left. But after he did go we realised what an utter twat he was, a complete waste of his talents, was still hoping for a while that he might come back to us if he sorted his attitude out. Clearly his tweeting a month ago just confirmed what a waste of space he is.
Jason Price. the amount of abuse he used to get collectively form the North Bank made me cringe at times . Best thing thing that happened for him was him moving on
Jason Scotland: Every one was calling him Lazy but top goal scorer that season. His job was to hold the ball then lay it back or turn to strike and did that job for us!
Scotland was an important part of our history and the abuse he got was disgraceful and infuriating for the decent fans. Apparently, for some a 2:1 goal ratio wasn't good enough.
yes jase the ace was booed for no reason, He was not my favorite but he did not deserve the stick he got, another was rory fallon that did not get the support from certain quarters....I dont like booing any player and would never do it myself...
Musty: You are the one who keeps preaching that goals win games. He gave us plenty, mate. Lost count of the number of times he dug us out of the **** in the 90th minute. I agree he wouldn't fit in now because you're right - he's not a hard worker.
Martin Hayes - I used to defend him out of a bizarre desire to attract the scorn of others. It worked spectacularly, especially when I praised his daisy-cutter when set free against Newcastle in the FA cup and was given the beating of a life-time.
Stephen Torpey was the big striker when I first started watching the Swans. A big fella. Held the ball up well and if he had received decent service then we could have gotten far more goals out of him. Some laughed when Bristol City paid £400k for him but I thought that was unfair - I did laugh when I saw him driving a mini outside Sketty school, though. Hilarious.
Leon Britton? Joe Allen got all the plaudits last year, but Britton more than held his own, and he's been with you since the league 2 days.
Kyle you are right there mate, the true general of our midfield is Leon, yes Allen was important to us, but Leon is more so. I would have been devastated if he went, I think I would have put a contract out on Brendan for really screwing us everything in our midfield comes through him, he never loses the ball he very rarely misses a pass. They were waxing lyrical about joe Allen's pass rate at Liverpool and in the press, they ignored Leon who was higher, he got 100% a few times last season. For me Leon is the man.
Is Leon unsung though? I mean, he's been pretty much universally loved down here since the League 2 days. He's certainly unsung outside Swansea mind. I was on the Scouse board a few weeks ago, talking about Allen, and a couple of their posters made disparaging remarks about Leon.....which really does betray these posters complete ignorance of football and what Liverpool will be trying to do. Brendan could use Leon next to Joe in Liverpool's midfield. Think Leon now knows which side his bread is buttered though.
Terror only brought it up because Kyle mentioned it, he is certainly not unsung with us I did say that Liverpool are in for the wrong player at the time of the Allen saga, I still think that
Leroy Lita, I don't understand the positively hatred of the guy on here, the same for Moore, they only had a very limited role for us last season and scored and won games for us.
