I'll go for our most loyal servant of recent times - Adam Drury. Quite how this man can even walk let alone, run, tackle, head and cross, considering all his serious injuries, is beyond me. But the legend that is Adam Drury keeps on delivering top drawer performances in the top flight. Marc Tierney's early season form was exceptional and I can't have been the only one a tad worried when he was injured and old-man Drury slotted in at left back. But in all honesty, he has never looked out of place and his class still shines through both on and off the pitch. Give him a new contract Any other nominations?
Agreed about Drury. He was fantastic against Everton, sticking in some brilliant tackles and was my man of the match. My nomination has to go to David Fox. He has some great passes in him and only cost us £75k!
Drury has been truly inspirational this season. Ultimate pro never complains when he is dropped, works hard to get back in and when he plays, excellent attitude and to top it all he loves the club and the area. They do get praise but maybe not as much as they should but Lamberts right hand men, Culverhouse and Karsa have done a sensational job in assembling and improving this team
The whole squad have been unsung heroes really, given the attention that Swansea have got this season.
Both Drury and Russell Martin have been exceptional. I really didn't think Drury would have enough in his tank but has been superb. We know he would tackle a rhino and win the ball but I didn't think he would catch one anymore. Russell Martin was not a popular choice when he arrived in League 1. Many old 606ers thought he couldn't play and was keeping better players out of the team. He has been versatile, strong and has popped in with his share of goals. Neither are the best crossers of a ball and that in some people eyes overshadows their first job of defending.
i think an interesting way of remembering how far we've come and how mindless some fans can be is this: when we signed russell martin, he replaced jon otsemobor. some fans were unhappy about this
Interesting that 3 out of our back 4 on Saturday and yesterday were ex Posh - they could be a feeder club for us like Leeds lol. Their lad Paul Taylor is going to be available in the summer and he by all accounts is very good - I live in Peterborough and get the Evening Telegraph eqch day and he's always getting good write-ups. Knowing Lambo's huge telent for finding gems from the Championship and L1 I wonder if Taylor could be a target this summer. I have to agree with the comments about Drury - he was immense on Saturday and yesterday and never, ever fails to give 100%. OK so he may have lost a yard or two of pace but his reading of the game, positional sense and ability to get forward (he started the move that led to Howson's goal on Saturday) more than make up for any deficiencies in his game. Totally deserves his testimonial - what an ambassador for the club. Everyone's a hero in my book from the fans, support staff, players, management and Board - what we have achieved in the past three seasons is phenomenal.
I have been impressed by Drury this year.... sometimes at the end of the game he looks like he is about to keel over he is so tired, but keeps going. Did you see his tackle against the everton player who flipped around by the impact? It was in about 5 mins gone he won the ball and just crunched him!
