With all the money Steve Bruce has and has spent, personally i would say I was very disappointed so far in the players we have brought in, players like won and Larson and even wickham although he has immense potential he is still very unproven at premier league level, it reminds me of the Peter Reid days when we came 7th two years running but he refused to buy quality premier league players, then we got relegated! I
Mean I can't understand how teams like Blackburn are going in for luis fabino and Stoke have gudjonson, it just dosnt make sense to me and at the moment I can't see us ever getting into Europe without getting proven big name players!

Review of "Mr Popper's Penguins" from st-shot on IMDb

Who better than Ace Ventura aka Jim Carrey to interact with the animal kingdom in Mr. Popper's Penguins. Problem is Ace has been rusting for some time and Carrey's act not only has become fatigued but lost a lot of energy along the way and when combined with the film's lazy, punchless generic script it is left up to the CGI penguins to slip, slide and crap their way into your heart and save the film. This clearly has to be the case since the cliché family aspects touchingly accented by one of the most obnoxious film scores of saccharine sweet drivel in ages (so bad no one is credited to take the blame) to season the family melancholia and heart tugging sentimentality is so bland and predictable you soon grow weary of the human camera hogging. It's penguin exploitation (they are the rage these days) at its best and children's comedy at its most flaccid and unimaginative.

Mr. Popper is a highly effective real estate developer who has a knack at closing the deal. He wants on the company shingle but he has to seal a deal with Miss Van Gundy (Angela Lansbury) to buy Tavern on the Green to become full partner. Divorced and not much of a dad he turns things around when his recently deceased absentee dad sends him a penguin followed by five more. It completely cramps his OCD style but when he sees they are enabling him to make strides with his kids and ex he turns his high rise into a winter wonderland to make the penguins more comfortable.

Using the same strategy as Gus Visser and his Duck (25) with the penguins acting as linchpins and draw to the film they are much of the time relegated to supporting duty in favor of the tired family dynamic. Adorable as penguins are their thespian skills remain atrocious when compared to the abilities of say Alvin and Theodore.

There are some fun moments provided by the flightless fowl when given an ideal stage with the water slide architecture of the Guggenhiem Museum and Carrey does display a couple of brief flashes that made him the funniest man in film back in the 90s and perhaps because of it his heart to hearts with family members fail to resonate.

Teenage angst auteur Mark Waters (Mean Girls, Freaky Friday) directs with a lackadaisical style that fails to attain little if any of the zany pitch one would expect when pairing Carrey and penguins. But Waters does more slipping and sliding than the penguins and Jim's time has come to be put on an ice flow. Popper's problem is too much people too little penguin.

Wasn't larson Birmingham's top scorer despite playing in midfield! And isn't Wickham widely regarded as the hottest young forward in British football at present? And arn't the Man U players we are after experienced Premiership players?
Oh well...I suppose there will always be people who see things differently to me..

No Gardner was birminghams top goal scorer last season and they went down, I'm just saying me along with every other Sunderland fan would love to see us in Europe and with the money Bruce has I think we are capable of doing that, but getting the best players from relegated teams and man u squad players won't cut it!

Luis Fabiano only went to São Paulo in january for over 7 million so cant see them getting him (they might but doubt it) and Guðjohnsen hasnt got that great of a scoring record to say the least

Bolton 59 games played 19 goals
    Chelsea 196 54 goals
    Barca 109 19 goals
    Monaco 9 and 0
    Spurs 9 and 2
    Stoke 4 and 0
    Fulham 10 and 0

So i dont really think he is what we need in all honesty, and he is 32.

How about Owen Hargreaves on a pay as you play type thing - reports on BBC site say he`s set up his own Utube channel to convince someone to give him a go - worth a punt IMO with little downside (Catts is likely to be suspended half the season anyway)

Larsson is a proven Premier League player, Gudjonsson is well past it, Wickham was pursued and watched by basically the majority of the top 6 teams and following Won's signing our profile and attractiveness in the Asian market is massively increased. Personally Id say quite shrewd signings sofar and hang fire mate, think the best is yet to come. Big signings tend to take longer ie. clubs bargaining for the most money they can get, player demands, competition from other clubs etc but id say over then next 2-4weeks id expect the more significant moves that you crave to be made.

And btw if Blackburn buy Luis Fabiano I'll dance around The Bridges in a chicken suit as a tribute to their persuasive owners!!!

23 yellow cards since 05/06 season, 7 last season.
2 red cards since the 05/06 season, both from last year.

    For Gardner btw

I'm not saying we should get gudjonson I'm just saying the profile that man has but yet he is still willing to go to Stoke, when a couple of years ago younis kabol said he wouldnt go to Sunderland if they were the last team on earth! And as for fabaino he's available on a free transfer after being released by his club.

In response to the OP. Stoke have Gudjohnsson alright and they can't get rid of him soon enough. This is a player that hasn't scored for 64 games for at least three different clubs!

The time to judge Bruce's signings will be at the start of the season when he has completed his work, and not now in the beginning of July.

I agree that there are questions over Wickham (however big a prospect he may be) and certainly Dong who hasn't played at anything like the level he has come to. Larsson, Westwood and Gardner are all good signings and there's a lot of business to be done yet.
