Now that the Daddy is back, there is a lot of pow wow in the papers about the impact of his return. Some say he is the catalyst and gives the team an aura of confidence. Others, like the jealous RS carragher, say that his massive ego will just stifle Lukaku.

may be the strikers deserve a thread?

To kick off, I've seen this analysis about various strikers and their stats. The RS striker who's been missing easy chances early season is now flavour of the month. But incredibly in terms of minutes per goal and goals per shots and shots on target, it is Martial who is the deadliest in the premiership. Rather surprised.

Not all that surprising tbh - I made the point in another thread that Martial has been much more effective off the bench this season. He's become akin to Solskjaer in his ability to score as a sub, so obviously gets his goals in fewer minutes as a result.

As long as they continue to be important goals, like against Spurs, I'll be happy enough <ok>

As has Rashford, the thing with these two is their pace terrifies defences and when they come on later in the game they are devastating. At the moment though Martial is the more clinical/calm of the two with his finishing when 1 on 1 or in tight spaces, Rashford will get there though and his free kicks are starting to look very good.

Aye Martial is more clinical, but Rashford still has more to his all round game imo. That's why he keeps getting the nod to start - Martial can come off the bench and score late on, but he has disappointed a bit when playing a full game this season, particularly against the better teams.

Yes. That is why the stats need to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Coming in as sub, is usually more difficult to make an impact but as a winger/striker when the player has the guile and the pace, it could be an advantage to play more tired opponents. The defenders would have been dealing for 60 mins + with another player with a different style. Then when they getting to grips with that player, he is replaced with someone different.

The likes of Martial, or Rashford or Lingard are not being asked to dictate the play. They are asked to go past their opponents and attack the goal and score or provide chances to the other frontmen. That is why I think JM should carry on introducing Martial or Rashford as sub in every match.

I wouldn't mind that last line of it wasn't for the fact they are the best two in their respective positions.

Who is supposed to start the game if Martial and Rashford are deemed to be subs?

I know Newcastle are mid table rubbish but both started on Saturday and both were excellent throughout.

In fairness he did say one of them. At least one of them should always start, but imo in the bigger games one of them needs to be available to come off the bench and make the difference, like Martial against Spurs. Ideally it should be Martial coming off the bench as he's more clinical.

Agree that against mid table clubs they should both start.

That only really works when it's next season and we might have signed a Griezmann for them to replace.

When it's Lingard or, worse, Mkhitaryan who are in ahead of them then it definitely does not make sense.

    They should just start.

What's the point of Martial coming on to replace Mkhitaryan when Mkhitaryan has done **** all in the first place, bar put us completely on the back foot due to his nonexistence?
