SAF has admitted that United needed to buy big years ago. The squad HE led to premiership title after title was simply not good enough in other managers hands. He steamrolled teams in the premiership. But the first indications that all was not well were when his team played in Europe. I remember the time when United crashed out of the group stages of the CL or struggled against the likes of Basle and also when United had an awful time in the Europa too. United were eventually kicked out of that last competition. It is a measure of his genius that he could have won so many league titles with such an ordinary (and aging) squad. He didn't say who was responsible for the lack of buys: himself or the GGs. I said that £300m was needed to bring that United squad to top competitiveness. So far £200m+ have been spent and by the end of the next transfer window I reckon we would be around that figure. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/29606440
I suspect if he did go and ask for some cash to splash he'd have just been told "You seem to be doing just fine without buying anyone"
