Today I had the pleasure, if you can call it that, of watching the game from with Utd fans. It was a bizarre experience that summed up why I love being a Ranger and supporting a team like ours.

I ended up in the East stand above the Rangers support. I can honestly say the place was like a morgue. The attitude is clearly that they expect to win and if they're not winning they're not being entertained! There was not a single song throughout the first half and some booed them off at half time! Disgraceful! Look at the league position and they weren't even losing. It brought home how patient we had been with MH in our support because we understand the need to fight for victory. It's not a right. Having nearly snapped my seat in half when we scored as I contained myself I waited for a response....... It just got quieter! When they scored and then took the lead its fair to say there is a huge bank of noise and it would be sensational to hear that constantly. Half the problem seems to be they only know 2 songs, Utd and Nic nac bar the occasional small offering.

We then had the highlight as the east stand broke into voice with their first song at 2-1. You only sing when you're winning! I creased up as rangers sang throughout.

It got to 3-1 and with 13 minutes to go plus fergie time they started pouring out, not one or two but dozens. I thought it was a fire drill! Christ, you've paid a load of money plus petrol and you're missing a sixth of the game!

I hadn't been to Old Trafford for years so it was a real eye opener. At its nosiest it's amazing but sadly it's far too infrequent. Give me a rocking Loftus Road and Rangers fans any day!

Sub note - for Utd fans immediately thinking WUM please feel free to view my posts and that's really not the case and I'm sure it's not reflective of everyone. Maybe it's an issue with the ground size that all the singers are split up and you get a load of tourists dipping in etc. interested to know your thoughts.

That is a great post 74. I can add nothing to that as you have already painted a picture of what supporting a real team is all about. Superb.

Thanks for the details 74. Sitting at home in Oslo it sounded like the game was at Loftus Road most of the game, even when down 1-3. Great support from those there. <ok>

It can't help when half the crowd don't speak English and the other half are knackered from the long drive up from Bromley. It's a day out- visit the megastore, get some pictures of yourself posing in front of the pitch and maybe buy one of those incredibly **** half and half scarves. Leave the singing to the odd pissed irishman.

Agreed, they were embarrassingly bad. I've been in more hostile environments at rugby matches... Couldn't believe it when they announced there were 70,000 people there, because it certainly didn't sound like it! Absolutely no comparison to Loftus Road atmosphere wise.

We played listen for the English fan where we were in the SAF stand

Around us were swedes Danes Japanese and bizarrely a large contingent from the Moscow branch of the man u supporters club

All on a packaged away day via the club shop. Hence no real atmosphere but I guess that's where all the £££s come from

Couple in front of us left with 12 minutes to go and by the final whistle I reckon a third of the stadium had nipped off to pizza hut

Dead right, I found the same. It seems more like a tourist hotspot than a ground. The number of people buying their half and half scarves was phenomenal. Any regular would realise they're all flogged cheap after the game!
