Unheeded warnings lead to heart-breaking late winner – report Sunday, 8th Feb 2015 21:04 by Clive Whittingham QPR conceded a crucial injury time goal for the fourth time at Loftus Road already this season on Saturday, losing 1-0 to Southampton in Chris Ramsey’s first match in charge as a result. How do you like your kicks in the teeth? Delivered by a steel toe cap boot? There are few traits of struggling teams as damaging as their propensity to concede late goals, and QPR have now shipped four in injury time at home this season at a cost of four points. Southampton were the latest team to benefit, snatching a victory during four minutes of added time at the end of the game through Saido Mane who was allowed to walk in behind a beleaguered QPR back four by Nedum Onuoha and finish powerfully over Robert Green and into the roof of the net. Steven Caulker had conceded possession downfield and then failed to commit a cynical foul to stop the play and allow him to file back. It was an all-round shocking goal to concede. But Rangers, under the caretaker charge of Chris Ramsey and Kevin Bond for the first time following Harry Redknapp’s resignation on Tuesday, couldn’t say they hadn’t been warned. The Saints record prior to this game showed six away wins, including their last three road trips in the league, scoring 13 times which is fewer than any other side in the top eight and conceding just nine which is the league’s best away defensive record. A 1-0 away win always looked statistically likely. And Ramsey’s back four, which featured centre halves Onuoha and Clint Hill selected at right and left full back, had allowed Southampton players, and Mane in particular, to wander in behind them unchecked all afternoon and had been lucky not to be punished for it long before the goal went in. Hill and Onuoha were particularly guilty, given a torrid afternoon by Mane and Eljero Elia. Mane, a Senegalese international, fed Elia, a Dutchman signed on loan from Werder Bremen last month, in behind the defence after six minutes and with Green inexplicably out on the edge of his area he attempted a lob into the open goal but missed the target. On the half hour Mane turned Hill and drew a full stretch save from Green – centre back Jose Fonte smacked the resulting corner flush onto the face of the crossbar with a flying scissor kick. Two minutes later he did Hill for pace and toed the ball wide with Green this time choosing to stay at home. Am I the only one who has recurring dreams at night of shoving a pair of wooly socks into Whittingham's big fukking pie hole?
Every Halloween the trees are filled with underwear Every Spring the toilets explode Every week a Swords cut'n'paste whine about too many words You are as predictable as Clive mate. Time for a nice doze.
I guess you've heard this before, but if you don't like what someone writes you can easily avoid reading it.
It's very easy to write stories and cherry pick out the mistakes He says a lot about nothing The match was poor for a start We didn't make much Saints approach play was why they are third in this league snappy and composed The defence did well enough but we lost by a fine margin I am sure loads love the write up but he gets it very wrong at times just to put in some flowery words Cols write ups are a lot better imo apart from the one lamb he slaughters once in a while
I was thinking the same about Fer. Thought he was MOM with Barton in the previous game, but almost invisible against Saints! Sometimes I think he tries to fit his views on a performance to fit his pet theories, in this case that Fer is better in the center of midfield than wide left. Maybe he is, but his performance Saturday didn'r support that. He also goes on about us playing 4 CB's but for me Ned is at least as capable at RB, and he has certainly played there for us at least as much as he has played CB,
I hated watching Ned being muscled out of the way by a smaller player. Needs a bit of coaching from Vinny Jones or someone like that to get his head right. Too nice!
Sod off these threads then. You're predictable pop at them in a couple of words is infinitely more irritating than an interesting insight provided by another. Nobody makes you read it!
The player ratings seem a bit harsh on us. I think we just about shaded the game overall and were clearly unlucky to come away with nothing and yet Clive rates pretty much every Southampton player higher that their QPR opposite number and for sure their overall rating is well above ours. Must be the depression we all feel after this result but it would be harsh to overlook some decent performances in a team under such pressure.
I think it's quite a nice tradition and highlights that our own individual hypocrisy is alive and kicking, I'm sure the gentleman in question was vociferous in his views to previous repetitive contributions that were purely copy paste efforts only serving to firm already entrenched positions. Oh the irony
Keep your wet dreams to yourself and while you're at it, how about keeping it short and sweet? Like my answer to your question. Yes you are.
If there was a competition for writing the longest essay about sweet fu*k all, Clive would win by technical knockout after everyone else had died of thirst
