25/07/2013 By David McIntyre Jamie Mackie is set to hand in a transfer request in an attempt to force a move from QPR. The forward has been unhappy at Loftus Road for several months and has informed the club that he wants to leave. West London Sport recently revealed that Nottingham Forest are interested in Mackie and that they have subsequently had a bid for him rejected because did it not meet Rangersâ valuation of the 27-year-old. His first-team prospects under Harry Redknapp look bleak and are likely to remain so, with the Rangers boss chasing the likes of Gary Hooper, Andros Townsend and Charlie Austin. Mackie, known for his never-say-die attitude, was repeatedly snubbed by Redknapp last season even after Rangersâ relegation was confirmed, despite it being widely accepted that their demise was caused by players on massive wages failing to perform. Forest manager Billy Davies is also keen on Burnley striker Austin, 24, and Mackie is one of a number of other forwards on his radar. Mackie played a key role in QPRâs promotion in 2011, scoring nine goals during the first half of the season before suffering a broken leg. He has made 85 appearances for the club, scoring 18 goals and featuring as a striker or on either flank. Several other clubs have been alerted to his possible availability and are monitoring the situation. Redknapp is making wholesale changes following Rangersâ relegation to the Championship and is on course to sign Hooper from Celtic unless a Premier League club are prepared to match his offer. Townsend, who impressed while on loan at QPR from Tottenham last season, is also waiting to see whether a top-flight club come in for him.
Poor article, Mackie is a RW and he states his options are limited because we want a LW and 2 CFs. I cant blame Mackie for leaving especially if he is stuck behind the woeful SWP.
This is a guy who has a genuine desire to stay at the club .................... yet, can't get a run. I've always valued his attitude at the club but can't pass comment of his talent simply because I have not seem him play enough. Shame really.
I've seen him play loads and he really is very limited. Good attitude though and possibly good enough for our division. But if Harold isn't going to play him anyway, no loss if he's sold.
Yes he's got a heart of gold, good attitude & will give everything, skillful limited but if he's unhappy its time to go.
Be sorry to see him go but if he's going for Millions rather than Hundreds of thousands then its not bad business.
Mackie is not a RW Flyer. He can't dribble and cross the ball. He's a natural forward where he played and had a prolific run for us 3 seasons ago. I can see him playing predominately on the right of the front 3 in a fluid, interchanging 4-3-3 system but not as an out and out winger.
I second this. He was a striker as he came to us and remained so for a little bit until managers preferred others there and so forced him onto the wing.
Hes been awful as a forward , so bad that Zamora is considered better than him. He does a job at RW getting into the box. Not pretty but can be effective.
His talent is his persistence on the ball. He fools defenders by taking on lost causes when more technically gifted forwards may have thrown their arms up
Good Spirit some great goals but too frantic for new football . You know 90% of the time what he is going to try doesn't come off Closing down defenders he is as good as Rooney ... Sadly that is just part of a footballer I will always love him for his lucky break against Liverpool that kept us up and his header against City which my mates and I all leapt like salmon at the same time He needs a change ?
What he lacked in skill he made up for in effort and determination. I'll miss him if he goes, a great example to other professionals.
I remember him looking bored at the fans forum, in fact he seemed more interested in his mobile phone. I did wonder then if the love had gone. He's not really added much other than commitment and passion and those qualities don't make him good on the ball anymore. If he wants to go let him, last thing we need is more malcontents. Thanks for the good times and your always be warmly welcomed at LR or whereever we are. PS. the flying header against city is still my wallpaper.
Be sorry to see him leave, but I agree if he's not going to be played he should be sold. Mackie has been my favourite player fo a few years especially for his heroics aaginst Liverpool as well as his general attitude on the pitch. Forest, eh? I hope this doesn't come back to bite us
Complete tosh flyer. In our promotion season he banged the goals in. Scored in the Liverpool epic, scored at old Trafford for ***** sake and his goal at man city in the match of the century was brilliant I'd say he's been pretty bloody marvellous
That was a great moment! Thanks Jamie for some great moments especially this one and the 2 all against Derby! Really best of luck.
Couldn't agree more. What short memories people have. Ridiculous that he wasn't given a run last season given how dire the rest of the squad were.
