We dominated possession today, we actually defended well but against a really poor Newcastle side. That was with what is pretty close to our first team apart from Wilshere and the conclusion is that the Cesc and Nasri situation has cause a cloud over our club and there is a lack of confidence and believe this club is heading in the right direction. Just look at Wenger's comments from a few weeks ago that if we sell our top players we are not a big club. Then we go ahead and (looks like) sell them. What message does that send the players and fans....we've known especially after recent seasons that the squad has very fragile confidence and one or two bad results or other factors and we seem to lose all the necessary belief to win. Wenger should sorted out Cesc and Nasri and the begning of the window as it sounds as though we've made no progress in negotiating any higher fee by waiting this long. The new/replacement signing would have lifted the club and had chance to settle. The ONLY way this season will not be a disater is if (a) Wenger replaces the departures with REAL, PROVEN quality (b) The new players can settle and adapt straight away
I wouldn't be too harsh on them yesterday, they were bound to feel demotivated with tall the Nasri and Fabregas stuff still going on. But yeah I agree that we need to improve our squad with proven quality, not youngsters.
Arsene had better be very busy and succeed in bringing in a capable replacement or I fear there will be even greater pressure on him which would be sad to see.
Had we taken the chances we created we'd have 3 points. For security's sake I'd like us to add atleast one more creative player, with the imminent departures of Cesc & Samir we're losing 2 from that side of things. I say for security as we are left to rely on the prone to injury Rosicky, Diaby & perhaps unfairly Ramsey. Really do think we need a more robust goalscoring option in the mould of Benzema, should prove difficult to acquire as I can't think of any who aren't called Karim. One more CB won't hurt, think Vermaelen, Koscielny & Djourou are good enough, it's once injuries & suspensions take their toll.
I still want a DM, left back, creative playmaker, a striker of almost equal quality to RvP and possibly another attacking mid. We should send Miyachi and Chamberlin on loan to championship teams too (or premiership if Miyachi is good enough).
