City take on Sheffield Wednesday at the Vale Training Ground this afternoon at 4 o'clock (FREE ENTRY) Currently lying in 4th place the Bluebirds title chances have gone, as barring a massive swing in goal difference Crystal Palace are unassailable. There is a big incentive to get down and support the boys as a win today will put us one point behind the Jacks (in second place) with a game in hand. This would set up a massive game this coming Monday evening 7 oclock at the stadium when the Jacks come into town. I always enjoy these fixtures, with free entry and free parking there really is no excuse not to get down and ''support the boys and make some noise!'' Despite my optimism City fell to a 0-1 defeat through a last minute Sheffield Wednesday goal. It looked offside to me, certainly the bloke standing next to me thought so as he gave the linesman a load of stick. One to watch again on You Tube I think. City had their chances in what was a good game of football but failed to put the ball away. Ben Turner had a very good game alongside Semi Ajayi in defence with the quick Tyler Roche looking threatening up front. Kagisho Dikgagoi was a disappointment for me and I don't see him making the first team anytime soon. There were three Swansea coaching staff watching the game. I did tell them we were saving our best team for Monday night, but I suspect they went home without having seen anything to worry about. Don't forget Monday night 7pm at Cardiff City Stadium - free entry and parking - Bluebirds!
I read it Mart even if no one else did. Good reporting. keep it up. there's a job for you at WoL yet!!!
I feel this is what most of us have been fearing. He could turn out to be a massive waste of money. Glad to know somebody has the stomach to watch the Development Side. Probably more exciting than the seniors at the moment
It's the free entry that does it for me! Tonight we play Swansea at Cardiff City stadium. There was a page given to this in the Millwall programme and this link on the website http://www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/news/article/u21-south-wales-derby-cardiff-vs-swans-2410603.aspx (dated 11th April??). Despite our defeat to Sheffield on Friday City still have the chance to finish second but need to beat the Jacks tonight and Ipswich at home next Monday. There should be a good crowd tonight and I can't think of a better way to spend a Monday evening Don't forget also the FA Youth Cup Final at CCS Thursday 30th April - also against the Jacks.
Just saying SWANSEA CITY LADIES WIN WOMENS CUP Swansea City Ladies won the FAW Women's Cup for only the second time in their History on Sunday, defeating Cardiff City 4-2 at Penybont. please log in to view this image Swansea City Ladies - FAW Womens Cup Champions In a highly entertaining match, played on the 3G surface at Bryntirion Park, it was the Swans who took the lead in the 15th minute as Wales U19 cap Katy Hosford fired into the left hand corner after a smart dummy from Jodie Passmore. But the Bluebirds responded with a goal of very high quality. The outstanding Lisa Bird chipped a delightful ball over the top on the right to Maria Martins and the Portuguese-born 18 year old finished spectacularly into the roof of the net. Neither side would have complained if the scores had remained equal at the break, but the Swans delivered two killer blows on the stroke of half-time. Wales-cap Sarah Adams - who has been plagued by injury this term - had cause to celebrate at the end of a frustrating season as she handed the Swans the lead with their best goal of the afternoon, before the impressive Hosford scored her second deep into stoppage time. Joel Hutton's capital-city side needed the first goal after the break to keep their hopes of a first title alive and they did just that as Bird ghosted past three defenders and around Ffion Ashman in the Swansea goal to halve the deficit. Cardiff continued in their hunt for the equaliser, but Swansea were clever in controlling possession to wear down their opponents. In the 87th minute, the tired Bluebirds defence made an error with a stray pass, which Adams capitalised on to beat Cardiff 'keeper Tayla Gould to the ball and the Swans forward trickled the ball into the empty net to confirm the Title for Ian Owen's side.
A good week really . Not quite enough to get something from the game even with ten players Now it's just a matter of the FA Youth Cup. Is Bellamy fit ? Top scorer Kenji Gorre's goal proved to be the difference, his deflected shot looping over Ben Wilson midway through the first half. Cardiff were reduced to ten man before the break as Ben Watkins was shown a straight red card, while the hosts hit the woodwork in the second period through Kadeem Harris. But the Swans held firm to remain second in the table ahead of their final league fixture against Ipswich Town at Landore on Thursday (11am). The Swans made four changes to the side that lost to Millwall last time out as Daniel Alfei, Jay Fulton, Joseph Jones and Matt Grimes were all named in the starting line-up. Cardiff, meanwhile, also opted for experience in their ranks as Ben Turner started in defence, while Republic of Ireland international Anthony Pilkington and former Crystal Palace man Kigasho Dikgacoi were also included. CARDIFF U21s: Ben Wilson, Jazzi Barnum-Bobb, Thomas James, Kigasho Dikgacoi (Abdi Noor, 90), Semi Ajayi, Ben Turner, Matt Kennedy, Ben Watkins, Kadeem Harris, Anthony Pilkington (Robbie Patten, 64), Tyler Roche (Macauley Southam, 79). SUBS: Dylan Rees, Joe Massaro. SWANS U21s: Oliver Davies, Daniel Alfei, Giancarlo Gallifuoco, Joseph Jones, Raheem Hanley, Jay Fulton, Matt Grimes, Adam King, Henry Jones (Stephen Fallon, 57), James Loveridge (Owain Jones, 41), Kenji Gorre, SUBS: Gregor Zabret, Alex Gogic. The visitors came into this fixture just one place and three points above Cardiff, knowing victory would all but seal a place in this season's play-offs. But it was the hosts who almost opened the scoring inside the first minute as Kadeem Harris won possession on the edge of the Swans penalty area before seeing his goal-bound effort well blocked by Joseph Jones. Despite a slightly slow start, the visitors soon found their rhythm as Adam King fired narrowly wide of the right-hand post, while James Loveridge saw his effort tipped round the post by Ben Wilson. Former Norwich man Anthony Pilkington then shot wide of goal from 25 yards before the Swans broke the deadlock on 23 minutes. After good play from the impressive Matt Grimes, the midfielder fed Kenji Gorre inside the box and after he beat two men his shot deflected and somehow looped in off the far post. Gorre almost grabbed a second shortly after as he volleyed over after another fine cross from Hanley, while Semi Ajayi headed over from six yards out at the other end. But the game turned on its head again eight minutes before the break as Cardiff were reduced to ten men following Ben Watkins' poor challenge on James Loveridge being deemed worthy of a straight red card by referee Mark Dadds. Loveridge - despite continuing for a few minutes - was eventually replaced by Owain Jones as the Swans went into the break with a man and goal advantage. Half-time: Cardiff U21s 0-1 Swans U21s Neither side made any changes at the break, but it was the hosts who began on the front foot; skipper Tom James and midfielder Matt Kennedy both seeing efforts saved by Oliver Davies. But the Swans remained a threat at the other end and Kenji Gorre nearly doubled the lead on 55 minutes as his low strike from the right edge of the box was superbly tipped away by Ben Wilson. Cardiff responded well and came even closer to drawing level as Kadeem Harris beat two defenders before seeing a curling effort come back off the crossbar with Davies beaten. The Swans slowly began to resume control as the second half ticked on, with Cardiff reduced to long-range efforts in their attempt to draw level. However, the hosts did come mightily close to equalising in the closing stages as substitute Macauley Southam's dipping volley was inches wide of the right-hand post. But the Swans held on to secure a vital win in their quest to reach this season's play-offs. Read more at http://www.swanseacity.net/news/art...v-swans-u21s-2414644.aspx#vXUePRFwCdEwf1QI.99
Well thats saved me having to write a report Can't argue with the result - there was only ever going to be one winner when we were reduced to 10 men, although it really was harder to miss when Semi Ajayi headed over the bar. I thought Dikgagoi had a much better game than on Friday and I don't think he put a foot wrong, with good distribution throughout. Anyway - onward to the Youth Cup Final on Thursday 30th April - perhaps we will win that one?
