    Newcastle U18s 1 Everton U18s 0

With four wins now from five games giving them their best start to a league since 2004, Newcastle's U18 side continued their good form on Saturday with a 1-0 win over Everton at Little Benton when Remie Streete got the only goal of the game.

The first half saw attractive play by both sides although neither created a clear cut opening in the first half hour. Everton were the first to threaten after 32 minutes when Alex Baird did well to parry a close range header by Anton Forrester.

It was not until three minutes before the interval that Newcastle created their first opening. Delightful play by Nicholson and Taylor put Brandon Miele in possession 25 yards out and he sent a screaming shot towards the top corner of the net only to be denied by James Fitzgibbon, the Everton ‘keeper, who leapt high to his right to tip the effort away for a corner.

Encouraged, Newcastle came again and grabbed the lead seconds before the interval. A short corner on the left saw Ryan McGorrigan send over a delightful cross for Streete to head powerfully into the roof of the net from the edge of the six yard box.

The second half continued in a similar vein to the first although gradually, as the game wore on, Everton began to exert more pressure. The nearest that they came to scoring was in the 74th minute when Forrester broke through the Newcastle defence and sent a delicate chip over Baird only to see his effort hit the bar and the ball come out.

After that the Newcastle defence, ably marshalled by captain Streete, held firm and the forwards did their share of playing down time by shielding the ball by the Everton corner flag in the last few minutes. So Newcastle won a hard fought contest between two evenly matched teams by the narrowest of margins.

NUFC: Alex Baird, Alex Nicholson, Michael Riley, Brandon Miele, Remie Streete, Louis Storey, Dan Taylor, Dennis Knight (Logan 79), Jonathon Hooper, Adam Campbell, Ryan McGorrigan.
Subs n/u: Lee Toland, Jonathon Mitchell, Marcus Maddison, Billy Ions.

I live in Benton and last month when we beat the mackems I was talking to Remie Streete outside
the training ground (on the way home from the pub).Seems like a down to earth lad. One for the future from
    what Ive heard.

  6. I saw him play for Whitley Bay FC (My even more local team), and he didn't really seem like a pro footballer at all to me.

I though he was just on loan.

Shame to see him slip so low.
