Today's newspapers. JOE Kinnear says his experience puts him âhead and shouldersâ above any other director of football in English football.. Kinnear was on Tyneside yesterday for the first time since his controversial appointment at Newcastle United. Kinnear, 66, returned to Newcastle last month as the clubâs âsenior executive in charge of all football-related mattersâ.The appointment was widely-criticised given that the 66-year-oldâs involvement in the game over the past nine years has been limited to a five-month spell in charge of Newcastle, which was cut short by a heart attack. For his part, Kinnear feels the club needed a director of football a position he feels he is more than qualified to succeed in, despite the misgivings of supporters. âEvery top club in the land has got one,â Kinnear said. âWe havenât â thatâs the difference. The manager canât do everything. âIâm probably the only football manager to be a director of football. âI donât know any other ex-managers who have. Iâve been a manager for 35 years. (No you havenât) Iâve been Manager of the Year. Iâve won every award there is in football as a player. (World Cups galore then Joe!) âI think all those qualities put me head and shoulders above every other director of football.â (Really, is that why you parted company with Oxford when in you were Director of Football?) There has been a trend in English football towards adopting a more continental model behind the scenes, where a senior figure above the manager has overall control over transfers. Other Premier League clubs, among them Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and West Bromwich Albion, have employed directors of football in recent years. However, Kinnear feels his experience as a player sets him apart from his counterparts elsewhere in the top flight. âSome directors of football have never played the game,â added Kinnear. âIâm lending my experience as a manager for all those years â 10 years at Wimbledonâ, (January 1992 to March 1999 is just over seven years Joe) âTwo years at Nottingham Forestâ, (February 2004 to December 2004 is less than a year Joe! And four wins in 23 games is not a good record) âTwo years winning promotionâ (and a relegation letâs not forget) âat Luton and, of course, almost two years at Newcastleâ. (September 2008 to February 2009 is two years? Itâs six months in my book Joe) âI would still be there had it (a heart attack) not occurred.â(Doubtful) The entertainment continues, but I genuinely feel sorry for our friend in the north having to put up with this.
Brazil will boot Scalari out and get Joe in to manage Brazil next year!, then he will go to Barca to win the treble.
I'm gutted he did replace Pardew. His MOTD interviews will have been well amusing with his newfound dementia.
