Saw a quote from marty about this the other week. He said in his view none of the youngsters are close to the first team just now, so he rather than stick them on the bench and maybe have them falsely thinking they'd "made it", he'd rather just leave that spot free. It makes sense I guess if he has no intention of playing them because they're not good enough yet.
