Unacceptable loss, even despite a "lack of a goalscorer"

I have seen on the interwebs the reaction to the loss and have actually heard some people make the claim its because Newcastle lack a goalscorer. What even is that for a statement?

Did Sunderland win through there having a goalscorer? Like the godlike Steven Fletcher, who has scored 4 premier league goals all season? (There top goalscorer by the way.) Or was it the man who scored the goal today? Johnson, who has scored 3? We went forward way too OFTEN this game, which yes is a problem teams can face. When you simply run at the opposition and rush to get a shot, a tactic which never works, and one which prior to this match we had admittedly stopped doing, instead letting teams attack at us.

Newcastle's biggest issue, is its woeful defending. What do we pay our coaches too do? Colocinni and Saylor where completely lost, Sunderland only went forward about 6 times, and looked like scoring everytime. Our defending method is simply "Throw yourself at the ball stop it at all costs" A method that almost killed Taylor when you guy smashed into the goal post head first! Oh sure he was "brave" but also stupid, and stupidity can't be allowed in our ONLY important match of the year. Sunderland shouldn't be allowed to absorb our running out of play mentality and then our woeful freekicks/corners and then just run up the other end of the pitch and witness our two most experienced defenders roll around on the deck like a pair of dying trout, and completely miss due to there lack of goalscoring threat. Any other team and we would of easily lost 4-0

Continuing my rant at this disaster, there shouldn't be silly mistakes and wonky play from these players. The last four derby's we have played like if we lose our entire squads parents will be hung, drawn and quartered. They can't handle the pressure of Newcastle's one important match! Balls going through legs during clear goalscoring moments? Players taking stupid shots instead of passing into space? These are things we weren't doing a couple weeks ago and yet we do them in the only important match of the year? Jesus, look at some other clubs out there, juggling 4 different cup competitions! Our lot wouldn't stand a f**ing chance and that ladies and gentlemen is why the derby is always a stark reminder, just how woeful our squad is. John O'Shea and Wes Brown play like it's just another day, Fabricio and Steven play like they're about to concede in the Champions league final.

I tend to agree, despite me having a few pops at winding them up on the other thread <laugh> shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ;)

Perez looked good, but we were very careless in possession too many times, Sammy was atrocious most of the game, we didn't press at all, and honestly Sunderland wanted it more. They won about 98% of the headers FFS.

Still don't blame Pardew. We have too many injuries, too few players, and too few quality players at that. Colo was shocking second half for me.

Newcastles real issue is we have too many **** players and a manager that dissappears up his own arse when he gets a couple of wins. Thats not to mention our owner who runs the club as a cheap shop.

Can't criticise a manager for going for the win. Ever.

Nor will I have a go at him because it backfired.

Pardew always uses his subs regardless of the way the games playing out.

This misses the point, mate. We're not scoring many because of our style of play, not because Fletcher's no good. It's quality build up play that we've lacked, largely because we're set up to defend, hence the 10 draws. You lost today because Pardew ought to have prepared for that basic defensive structure we use with a view to hitting you on the break. Got you in the end, although it was close.

I disagree that this was the only important game of the season. It wasn't even the most important. For me the Spurs loss hurts more than this one. We've never had a trophy just cos we have the better overall derby record.

Think it's a bit harsh on Taylor though, mind. The rule of defending is, or at least was when I played, DO NOT LET THE BALL BOUNCE IN THE BOX. Colo let the ball go across him and bounce in the box.

If Taylor didn't make that interception, it's a goal. Brilliant defending.

Colo was all at sea though, and I'm not sure where Janmaat is on these occasions. First half Whickham had a free header when there was four of our defenders in the box against him, with Janmaat just looking at him 3 yards away <doh>

Colo was ****e today. End of. He was caught in no mans land too often. Not least for the goal. Dummett, drawing the foul, sadly didnt push the guy over properly. Still got the yellow.

0-0 would have been fair enough, 1-0 but done at our own game plan is just ironic and is harder to take. Fair play to Gus who has Pardews number every, single time.

Again I worry that we have one gameplan that "works" - solid defending and counter-attack. But with the "quality" we have, it's not always guaranteed that we'll defend that well. In fact, frequently we can't which is why the 2014 record is so poor. It always seems to me that this club cannot ever really take the game to the opposition. We are too unorganized going forward to cause problems for teams defending. It's why we win so many by one goal, we do just enough to nick a goal and don't concede, it's classic smash n grab stuff really. Sometimes an individual will kind of grab the game and do enough, such as Cabaye in the past, Ben Arfa (very fleetingly), Cisse when he arrived, and now Sissoko's charged with doing it, with Perez occasionally chipping in.

It's a familiar tale though and will remain so under Pardew. I can't be bothered to look back at the stats of it, but it just seems to me that this will always be the way under either Pardew, or Ashley, or both.

Not rubbing it in lads but we totally dictated the game today and got what we deserved.
We missed 2 sitters in Wickhams header and Gomez's tap in that he somehow hit over. I expected more from your today.

Very even scrappy game between two very average sides. We had more of the ball, they probably had the better quality chances in terms of numbers. Pardew went for broke at 0-0, personally thought that was a mistake. A point was not such a terrible result. We probably deserved a point on balance but tight games like that, it just takes one moment.
