Now I've had some time to digest what happened, I'm gonna attempt to rate the players. I thought Eddie's subs were incredibly poor, first game where I can say it's mostly his fault. Taking of Tonali and Joelinton is absolute suidicde against a team like Liverpool, as well as removing Gordon who will also work hard for you. We looked so ****ing open when that happened, as well as the loss of Botman. I'm not packing but just would love to understand why Tonali was taken off, and why then we took off Joelinton to have a midfield three including Longstaff and Anderson? Christ that is suicide. We really didn't need to take so many risks to get the 2nd goal, we were in control of the game at 1-0, just see it out for a 1-0 win or wait until they take a risk. Below are ratings which I'm sure some of you will disagree with, but like I say, I think Eddie is primarily to blame. Ratings - Pope - 6 - Some good saves, but can't blame him for the goals. Trippier - 7 - Solid game. Schar - 6 Botman - 7 - I thought he was having a superb game up until the end, I actually thinks it's harsh to say it was his error because the ball sort of fell awkwardly off his arse, onto his foot and into the path of Nunez. He made a sensational block to deny Salah and made a lot of great challenges. Burn - 5 - Out of his depth against this sort of opposition. Not terrible, but just outplayed. He was skinned for that 2nd liverpool goal. Tonali - 7 - He makes some sensational runs and has a bit of everything in the game. Some quality passing at times. Bruno - 5 - I thought he looked sharper than he has been for a while, his best game for a while, but holy **** that was an awful error for their 2nd goal. It's scary how vulnerable he's looked recently without aid from joelinton and tonali. Joelinton - 6 Gordon - 8 - Great goal, worked hard, good performance. Isak - 5.5 - Got no service, largely anonymous, but deserves credit for getting VVD sent off which should have sealed the victory. Almiron - 6 - He gets slated but was our best goal threat. Hit the post and forced Allison into a wonder save. Worked hard. But he doesn't really create much unfortunately. Barnes - 4 - Unbelievably ****e not to square to Wilson. Wilson - 5 Longstaff - 5
Mostly agree but would drop Gordon to 7 (he should've done more to attack TAA). Barnes was a 2. Utterly ineffectual and no idea what he did for that chance. Howe - 0. Literally the first time I've seen him specifically cost us the game.
Newcastle are in trouble based on the performances we've seen so far this season. The Aston Villa game was flattering and they lack intensity this season. Last season Newcastle could be very intense in spell because they made sure the ball wasn't in play much... 51 mins average (the worst club for it) Basically Newcastle cannot be this intense under the new rules because time wasting isn't permitted, so Newcastle are back to the drawing board.
What I will say is (and as always) there seems to be a knee jerk reaction to a bad result/s - I'm as guilty as everyone and Sunday I probably could have been jailed for some of my opinions on everyone associated with the club but just to take a step back, a deep breathe and analyze it as a whole, even if we lose to Brighton and beat Brentford in the next two games we will have the same number of points after 5 games as last season (having played 3 of the same teams in Brighton, City and Liverpool).
I'd love to know which team you actually support, while dedicating so much of your time to our forum.
Hardly the time to be panicking while against City and Liverpool. We lost against them last year, we always lose or fail to win against them. We have a good run of fixtures after international break.
No need to panic. We lost against the worlds best team (Man City) and Liverpool who are the 2nd best team in the uk.
