Does nobody here watch IPL cricket? Every wicket is reviewed for "no ball," it takes seconds, the same method could be used to review "goals" scored, it would take no time and it would be conclusive!

Really only decisions around goals and red cards actually effect play. They should probably be reviewed and they both interrupt lay anyway so it wouldn't interfere with the flow of the game.
Other things I would like to see in football is a yellow card for any player who isn't the capitain talking to the ref unless he's getting a talking to, I hate seeing players crowing round the ref. would like to see it far more like rugby. The other side of this would have to be a greater accountability for the referees including talking to the press afterwards.
I would also like to see suspensions applied after games to players who dived. Would cut it right out

Things like penalties, free kicks, what cards should be given are incredibly subjective and will always need human involvement to make the decision and as we see on tv every week so called experts can't agree after seeing the replay constantly.
However, whether the ball crossed the line is black or white. Is not an interpretation of the rules given the evidence it can be proven. It's also a fundamental part of the game and needs to be judged to the best of our ability.
Offside is also black or white however there is an interpretation required when it's close.
I think as a matter of course goals should be reviewed, this can be done whilst the team is celebrating anyway so it wouldn't slow the game down.

absolutely spot on. i really think people who are against goal line technology are merely saying it cos they don't want technology elsewhere in the game. thing is, i don't want it anywhere else but can totally see the logic in having it for goals. there is little anyone says that will convince me we shouldn't have it for that. it is desperately needed - its an embarrassment as it stands.

I still think that the only way is a review system like in tennis and cricket, It would stop all of the shirt pulling at corners, England would have got a nailed on penalty for the shove on Carroll.

i agree that if we bring technology in for more than just 'ball crossing the line', then the review system is best. two challenges a match or something like that. this nonsense that it stops the flow of the game does my head in... whenever there is a bad decision the game gets stopped and everyone argues about it anyway! if anything, it would speed the game up and allow more discipline from players, as if they feel aggrieved they can review it, so there is no need for dissent.

Completely agree re players talking to refs. It would take a few cards at the start of the season but do so much more than the much vaunted "respect" campaign. I would also like to see retrospective bans applied to instances of clear cut simulation - not just diving to win free kicks but the pathetic writhing around holding your head when contact was made elsewhere. I have enjoyed the Euro's but hate the amount of simulation and faking of injuries to attempt to get opponents booked/sent off. Ban the cheats!

There WAS goal line technology!!!
The 5th official was standing less than 3 meters away, bending over straddling the touchline, looking directly along the line, he MUST have seen it!?!?!
Personally I don't want machinery refereeing football matches, you don't get the same satisfaction shouting abuse at a machine.
"Your logic chip is broken" "whose the bastard in the black metal case" "your not fit to fry some chips" Just doesn't work!!!!!

That really made me laugh, perhaps the snakepit can sing that to opposition subs as they are warming up at Carrow Road. :emoticon-0136-giggl

If we are going to use technology, I would rather see it used for simulation.
Players rolling around screaming in agony, when they haven't been touched. I hate to see grown men behaving like babies. They should be sent to the touchline and not allowed back on the pitch for 15 minutes, sort of sin bin like Rugby. I'm sure that would cut it out PDQ.

I think I'd we're taking a leaf out of Rugby's book allow treatment whilst play continues. Only stop it it's inconveniently placed (goal mouth) , requires the player is carried off, or for head injuries.
It would stop players rolling around on the floor to hold the game up.
