    This is ridiculous.

So if I dive in with a reckless, potentially career ending challenge, have a fight with someone, or physically abuse someone, I could get as little as 3 games. (Heck, I might even get away with it if the ref gives me a yellow card instead)

I call someone a name and I get 10 matches?

    How stupid.

People are too hyped up with this racism lark. It's not a good thing, but no words are as bad as physical abuse.

I say people need to grow thicker skins and stop being so easily offended.

We are not going to get rid of racism this way, we're just gonna make sure that we're all even more sensitive to it, therefore when someone makes a stupid racist remark, instead of being able to brush it off as immature name calling, we'll all start crying, and everything will be put on hold simply because one idiot made a stupid comment.

IMO - If the person who made the racist remark is prepared to apologise publically, the ban should only be a couple of games. Most racist/inappropriate slurs are used in the heat of a moment in anger, by a person who's not actually racist, but just made a mistake. I'm not saying it's an excuse, but It's not right that we make everyone who uses a racist term out to be a horrible person. I'm guilty of having slightly racist/sexist/homophobic thoughts from time to time, but who doesn't?

Scare tactics wont get rid of racism. Better education to people will, and also telling people that they need to stop caring so much about what other people say. Words only hurt us because we allow them to. They will never be the same as physical abuse.

and that is if someone other than the alledged victim hears it
or is caught on TV mouthing the alleged words

what happens if a footballer is a good ventriloquist

I got a laugh from Mark Schwarzer on Sunday when I stood up and called him 'Skippy' is that racist ???

mind you, I got a bigger laugh from the crowd when I followed up with 'cheating twat' after <laugh>

People still complain when UEFA are actually making plans to do something about it. If a player is stupid enough to be racist, they deserve a lengthy ban.

The 'heat of the moment' excuse is complete and utter bollocks.

I never said It was an excuse. I said quite clearly that it wasn't an excuse.

All I said that people say things in the heat of the moment, and if they're willing to apologise and come out and say it was wrong, and that racism has no place in football, then they should get no more than 2/3 games IMO, if it's their first offence ofcourse.

If they're continuisly doing it, then stronger action would need to be taken.

Have you ever said anything that might be considered bad enough to have you put out of the ground Tash?

I agree with UEFA's stance on this completely. I've banned my grand daughter from coming round to our house for 10 weeks because she called me ' baldy ', it may have been in the heat of the moment however she must be educated in what she can and cannot say. In my experience 10 minutes on the naughty step isn't a punishment that matches the crime.

When I explained that " her daddy may lose his hair and end up bald like grandpa " she replied " Good....then I can call him baldy as well "

She'll get the shock of her life when I advocate retrospective punishment in 10 years time when my lad loses his hair.

The 'heat of the moment' is more cultural than bollocks, you use the words you hear being used as cuss words regardless of if there racist in origin.

I've heard 'Blacky' used as a general swear in Scotland but still not sure if it was racist or not in origin.

    'this racism lark'?
    LOL.

It should be 20 games. Racism has no place in football.

I prefer they actually start to do something. Hazy area for me though as you are trying to apply a universal standard to something which is treat differently depending on which country or what part of the world you're in. Good luck to them basically.

I think it's a case of over compensating for turning a blind eye in the past for so long but it's getting OTT now and just causing more problems.

Racism is a terrible thing and action is needed to stamp it out.

That said, there are still fans being killed every week because of the violence that exists within world football.
I would suggest that the focus of the 'powers at be' should be more concerned with that.
