Now that we are in the PL (I like saying that), can we be in the PL reserve league? If so do you think we will stick with the U21 team we have been doing or will go back into a reserve league. My memory is the reason we left the reserve league was poor competition. Seems like that goes away now if we will playing the reserve teams of the PL. I'd like to see us join the PL reserve league to give those not playing stiffer competition and keep them in game shape. This would also give the young guys tougher teams to play as well and get them more ready to jump to the 1st team.
Youth and reserve team football is having a major restructure this summer, is hasn't been confirmed yet exactly what is happening as the auditing process is going on at the moment.
I agree with MIsaints, it is too big a jump from u21s to PL. I can remember going to the reserve cup final at the Dell back in the 60's. We won with a team that had Channon and Bobby Stokes playing. Unless you are going to send everyone out on loan, the stepping stone of a reserve team is a useful one.
The mantra from the club is clear that it's about creating a pathway to the 1st team. So the U21s will remain, whether they compete in the reserve league and have another name change is a side issue. The important thing is that our 17-18 year olds get match experience against older pros
There has been a number of PL clubs that have either withdrawn there teams or threaten to this season. It's about time it got resolved.
Defo should be in a reserve league. At the moment the U21 just dont play enough its got to be good for there development to be playing more regularly.
The idea was to do more structured games to suit what we wanted, without the organisation required to play in a reserve league. Not sure enough games were played in the end. Not all PL teams are in the reserve league..bet we aren't either. It will all be about the 1st team.
