Cheers ell, I wonder if the fight is any good, will it bring more fighters out of retirement? Dubois got a slapping tonight by an older guy.

Youll need to delete a few 'X' that appear, then delete the pop up page. Do this a couple of times, it works
I fkng hope not Este. Dubois lost to a 35 year old unbeaten Olympic silver medalist, not to a 50 year old punch drunk old timer needing the dollars. Boxing has always been about the money but it’s completely fcked as a sport - what has and does bring fighters out of retirement is $ and occasionally being so punch drunk they still belieeeeve. They need saving from themselves. Tyson is an iconic Name, if he wants to raise money for charity off the back of that with pittapat exhibitions then that’s one thing but old boys fighting real fights against active pros? No thanks. The dynamic of boxing fans has changed. We have white collar boxing, celebrities ‘turning pro’... youtubers topping fight bills and promoters selling grudges to the Saturday night party gang. Thats where the market is and people with no real understanding of the sport are told they’re watching champions league but are often actually watching Sunday league (it’s the only sport where Alphabet belts and ‘rankings’ make this possible). So people will continually fork out PPV for second rate fights and Eddie Hearn will continue to serve them up. Its a free market and that’s how entertainment is going. If people enjoy it, good on them. It’s always been a dubious business but for a lot of old school boxing fans the disillusionment with the sport is palpable - as you can probably tell from this post
It’s terrible. These things are ruining top class sport. I’m still smarting over giant haystacks getting a raw deal in the big daddy fight.
I used to get my mates round on big US fight nights. It was a regular occurrence that we’d crash and miss the main event. Woke up on the morning of the Lewis Holyfield 2 fight with about 25 blokes asleep in my living room. We’d been on a bender in a Belgian beer house, invited half the bar back. Only one guy watched it and he was too muntered to know who’d won.
These exhibition fights, YouTube grudge matches, McGregor vs Mayweather type fights are ruining the sport
When I was in the fire brigade we stayed up all night to watch the second Liston/Clay fight. It was over in a couple of minutes. Liston layed down. Were we pissed off at that!
