Thinking about the type of players that we need in January, I reckon they need to have at least one of the attributes below.

    Decent pace, preferably quick
    Dominant in the air
    Creative

Also, they need to have good stamina to add to the likes of Dobson, Hume and O'Nien.

Being able to pass to a teammate would be a bonus of course!

All ****ing kinds is the short answer.

I only rate the 2 keepers and Lynch.

Rate them as of the required standard for where we are now mate, and our current aspirations.

I don’t see anything else in the squad that I would say was upper league one. The Premier League is a distant memory there’s no value in comparing where we are now to then.

To answer the question seriously, the main thing we need has not changed since Sessegnon left, and midfielder who can carry, pass and shoot.

I don’t think we are too bad at the back, but a RB is desperate, we are woefully short there.

We need a forward who can shoot from range, there’s such a lack of creativity and final ball and we haven’t anyone bar Power and the departing McGeady who fancy a dig. That can be gold in tight games.

We need to clear out this whole raft of identikit centre midfielders, O’Nien deserves his shirt for effort over ability, there’s not another of them I’d be upset to see leave.

The playing staff is in a dire state, even for the level. We are seeing teams like Oxford, Coventry and Burton come with players who stand out a bit and look like they can make something happen. Here we are the biggest club and budget (allegedly) in the league by a distance and it’s like a colour by numbers book.

    Its lifeless.

The madness remains that if we win game in hand we are a point off the playoffs. Just makes the managerial disaster even more poignant.

We need players all over pitch. No matter what you think of Parkinson or Ross the biggest problem we have is lack of good, league one players. People are already criticising Parkinson, which is fair enough, but who on earth sanctioned the signings of de bock, Dobson, McLaughlin, McNulty, grigg etc. The players are simply not good enough. Last season the squad was good enough so, for me, Ross failed massively. We had the likes of cattermole, oviedo, mama, honeyman, mcgeady, Matthew's. We have downgraded and I'm.just amazed people are surprised. Better than 12th but not that much better. Throw in the pressure of playing for a big club and most cant handle it.
We need a fast right back, strong midfielder (Robson perhaps), a fast winger and a striker. That's the bare minimum.

We need big f*cking physical hard b*stards who can play ugly to get us out of this league.
We need some fast c*nts not afraid to go past a player and go on to score AND not pass backwards.

That my friends is the answer.

Too late for that one I think.

The demand for him coming out of contract will be massive and he will want to step up a level, he’s 27 now I think, it’s his time.

Should have been done in the summer and we wouldn’t be in half this mess. Top, top player for this level.

The keepers, Willis, Hume, O'Nein, Wyke and Gooch are the only ones I'd keep, all the rest would be open to offers (minus the loanees,of course). A couple of the ones I've mentioned wouldn't make the starting eleven either. So I think we need 7 not 5.

Agree with OP that we need to recruit players with 2 of the following attributes - power, pace and creativity.

Agreed. As the cliche says, someone to grab the game by the scruff of the neck.

They really don't have to be that good. Just keep everyone else in check and on their toes.

Pity that they don't seem capable of finding young players like James Mcclean or Kevin Kyle, cheap and effective.

Absolutely no chance getting Maddison. We had our chance in the summer but Hill etc decided against it.

We could do with someone like Akinfenwa upfront because I've often seen us get loads of decent crosses in but there's absolutely nobody in the obvious places to convert, not who's going to get to it first anyway. Just one of the many basics that we don't have covered.

Maddison's an absolutely quality player. Even if we had a chance, there's no guarantee that he would click and be as effective as he is at Peterborough though. It's actually unlikely, given several of our previous signings that I can think of. Which brings us back to McLean / Kyle, young and raw players.

We struck lucky with them mind and everyone else is trying to do the same thing.

We're going to need to be lucky, shrewd but also take a few chances.
