While the question of whether coming out should be news in 2015 rages on, tonight it has been revealed that two Premier League footballers are 'ready to come out as gay'. According to The Daily Mirror, an England international player is amongst the pair of top-flight footballers who are preparing to announce the news, which will be made public in tomorrow's newspaper. While many athletes across the world of sport have come out as gay in the past, the footballing community has yet to see a top-flight player publicly come out in the UK. The two footballers will be following in the footsteps of former international rugby player Gareth Thomas and WWE Hall of Fame wrestler Pat Patterson, who both came out as gay in 2009 and 2014 respectively. Thomas previously described his experience when coming out as "probably the scariest moment in my life".Meanwhile, Patterson recently spoke publicly about coming out as gay last year, saying "it feels great to be free". http://m.digitalspy.co.uk/showbiz/n...ready-to-come-out-as-gay.html#~ps1r8rTx834n1U
I don't know who it is and I don't care really. When I say I don't care I mean that it has no bearing how I see people. Who you sleep with does not define you as being better than anyone else. Or worse. Would be nice if one day people don't fear coming out as gay as we won't care if they are or not.
The two players – including an England international – have told family and friends, and are being supported by their clubs and the Football Association. We are not revealing their names. They would become the first ever players to publicly announce they are gay while in the top flight of English football. The stars are thought to be planning to go public before the start of next season. We can also reveal that another well known player came out to friends in 2011. But a homophobic word was then daubed in paint across his car. It is understood he is now reluctant to come out publicly in case he is the target for more abuse.
After what Sol Campbell, who isn't gay, had to put up with, I don't get why a footballer would want to announce he's gay.
Exactly Charlie. Me and Bob have took dogs abuse on here for years for a having a liking for fat birds. We are not lesser people you fattist bastards. Oh it must be Sterling with that mincing run. Vardys a good shout too, Happy.
who cares - the only people who think anyone is interested are the players themselves who obviously feel the need to tell the world and announce it via the press - get over yourselves, no-one gives a ****
The mincing run thing is nonsense Chazz. I thought stereotypes had been done away with the day legendary former Liverpool hardman Tommy Smith came out?
Did anybody catch that documentary on BBC3 about this subject a year or so ago? They said on that plenty of players are ready to come out but are told not to by their agents, clubs etc... It apparently decreases their transfer value and could potentially upset their dressing room.
Nowt wrong with the gayers. Nowt wrong with the plumper humpers. Nowt wrong with the granny grabbers, the foot fondlers or even those who have a predilection for Welsh women. Can't we all just live and let live. Like it was one great big on-line, virtual happy hippy commune. Love and peace to all posters. xxxx. We mean it maaaaaaaaan.

One step too far Ernie. We shouldn't have to take responsibility for them. They knew they were always going to play second fiddle to the sheep when they agreed to be born Welsh & female.
Sterling has allegedly fathered more kids than most of us have had hot dinners. That would be quite an about-turn.
Had a quick search on Twitter for names coming up. Leighton Baines, Luke Shaw, Per Mertsacker and Oxlade-Chamberlin. Obviously they could all be bull. (Not my views... Just those of people on Twitter).
Shouldn't be an issue in the 21st century. Unfortunately, it is, because the simple concept of being attracted to a member of the same sex is punishable by death in some countries or imprisonment. One of which is hosting the World Cup in 2022 and the hosts of the next World Cup aren't friendly to homosexuals either.
