So much excitement in and around the club at the moment, new stadium and training ground in the relative near future and a steady influx of new and dare I say, quality signings coming in at a rate of what seems one every other week ! All this good news coming in makes it feels like Christmas, gifts for the fans ! I Hope though that performances and more importantly, results, are in our favour this coming season and whilst I feel more than confident we will survive, I will admit to expecting / hoping for at least a mid to top 10 finish ! With the acquisition of a Chris Samba type of CD, an attacking and may I add, speedy right back and perhaps a ball winning ( snapping at your heels) type mid def, who can also attack, then I would be as excited at the prospects for a coming season as I can remember in all my 40+ years supporting this club....Up, up and awaaay :)

I have to say I'm a bit confused by some articles etc. that call Hughes an attacking manager.

Unless I missed something, all his previous teams have made themselves hard to beat first and foremost.

It's also the first thing that he did when he became our manager - sorted out a tight, hard working team that was built on solid foundations.

I have no doubt that Hughes will be aware of what is needed defensively, whether that is the belief that a full pre-season with the existing squad is enough, Onouha moving to the centre or another acquisition.

I agree with the thread. Da Silva and Nelsen have strengthened our defensive squad but the latter, along with Hill, may only be a squad player. I would like a really strong CB like Samba (please, God) to partner the best of Hill/Ferdinand/Nelsen and introduce some pretty strong competition in the centre of our defence.

In addition, we have lost Taiwo and, for reasons I don't fully understand, there seems to be a question mark over Young. Whilst I regard Onuoha primarily as a FB, I still believe we need another FB to give us the strength in depth to challenge for a mid table position.

Its a bit worrying we havent been linked with any defenders. 2 are a must and any winger or forward now is a luxury signing.

young is gone, he didnt even go on the tour.

As I said elsewhere, I'm surprised we haven't gone for Nat Clyne who now looks set for the Saints...

Especially as hes got under a year to go and can be had at a bargain price. Naughton is another one.

They have massive scouting reports on lots of players so obviously theyve seen something they dont like.

We have Fabio to play there now so he would be fine but there has to be something wrong if only saints are interested.

i thought Fibo would be playing at left back for us as we only have Traore and Hill and Hill doesnt have the pace to play LB anymore

Fabio at RB and Traore at LB is what I think would happen, I see Onuoha more as a CB but anyway, clyne wouldnt be the 1st choice RB if we signed him.
