Given the current favourable and stable financial and administrative structure of the club, would you rather have Neil or Olly at the helm? Reasons please. I would be curious to see what Olly could do with the resources that Neil has. Some of Olly's signings were duff but then so have some of Neil's. On balance, I would not change the status quo but there is a little part of me that would just be curious..
very similar managers & can both get a bit extra from ordinary players sometimes, felt for olly when he left or rather pushed as he done so much to get club back on course, if & when neil does leave i wouldn't mind having him back at club. regarding transfers there both a bit on par regarding choices although neil & olly didn't have much choice at first due to budgets.
I agree with Jeff's comments and would add that both these fine gentlemen have given 100% to the cause.
The Ollie of today is certainly far more palatable than the hoof-ball Ollie of old. He may well have done a good job with the current crop as hes doing really well with B'pool with limited resources. But for me its Nelly all the way. Interesting question though, RTID
Northolt, that makes your position pretty clear! Thanks Swords, I thought so too. Was expecting mad afternoon but much quieter than I thought so time to think about something interesting!
hhhhmmmm............now I like Neil....but I also liked Olly, so which one's best?....there's only one way to find out!!!.......... please log in to view this image
Olly is a legend in my eyes and love him but when NW goes we will be up the legaue as an established middle\figting for top ten team and we will be looking for a manger to take us the next step forward into a regular top 6 finishing team. Sadly or me Olly won't be the man for that, we will be in the postion (new staduim and all) to attract bigger managers with a more proven track record. Or at least when I wake up thats whats happend.
I would agree...when I think of Ollie I can't help but remember scrappy games in the old Division 2...and 'this a proper football club.' I think Ollie will always be remembered fondly, and so he should, but we've got to be looking forward and surely the step after Warnock (hopefully a while away) will be a proven top manager capable of pushing us toward the top six. Interesting question though RTID.
I think that having ollie back after NW's departure would not be a bad shout also. I also remember some of the dross back in div 2, and him being a bit of a route one merchant. Since then though, he spent some years in the football wilderness and changed his football philosphy and would like to see how he could combine that with his undoubted passion for Rangers
Olly wasnt half the manager back then with out Kenny Jacket next to him (as he proved with his short stint at the Walkers). As much as i love Olly, im not sure i'd want him back!!
It is easy to underestimate how good a job Ollie did at QPR. After our relegation to League 1 with the club in administration virtually the whole squad was released. He built a team only able to sign players available on free transfers who didn’t need relocation expenses. Not only did he stop our slide, he reversed it and won us promotion back to the Championship. It was a magnificent effort and he got shafted by Paladini for his trouble. However, it is also easy to underestimate how good a job Uncle Neil has done at Loftus Road. We were slipping towards relegation when he took over which he promptly stopped and then performed a minor miracle by winning promotion the next season while keeping Briatore at bay and maintaining the player’s focus through the impending FA enquiry. Certainly he had far more resources available to him, but he used these sensibly proving many of us wrong with a number of his signings. Both managers restored pride to QPR and both have profited from doing so. The passion shown by the reinvigorated home supporters has definitely helped to lift the team. Personally I’d like to keep Ollie in the past and keep his memory untarnished. I know that he has developed as a manager since he left us, but I don’t think he is as good an all round manager as Nelly. However I do want to see Ollie return to Loftus Road as the manager of an opposing club, I sincerely hope that we would raise the roof for him and I reckon he would have a tear in his eye. Now, if you had offered Venables ......
Talking of Ollie, I was in Blackpool last night. I ran into a spot of bother and had to call the police. The copper on the line asked what was the problem. I explained that there were two women fighting over me. He asked what exactly was wrong with that. I replied that the fat one was winning.
