Two horses died in the paddock shortly before the start of the first race of the day at Newbury, before racing was abandoned for the day an hour later. http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/other_sports/horse_racing/9395743.stm
A terrible tragedy. When you take your horse to the races you know there is a possibility that you won't be taking it home again, but never in a million years would you think it could be electrocuted in the parade ring. Reports are suggesting that the two horses who died were the only ones to be wearing steel plates rather than alloys. The Merry Giant was effected by the incident, he still ran in the race and is reported to have finished badly traumatized. What were the connections of this horse thinking of, when they decided he should still run? They should be ashamed of themselves. Epona
