Do we really need 2 DM's? We even play it at home against clubs like Wigan. Is this really neccessary?
We only play with one really...Mikel...the other seems to be a bit more box to box supporting the other two. I see what you're saying though
Yeah. it just seems a bit silly as , in reality, we only have 1 who can play that position effectively and that's Romeu IMO.
Who do you consider defensive midfielders? To my mind we have Essien,Romeu and Mikel. General midfielders we have Meireles and Ramires. Attacking Frank During a game there will be times when the general midfielder will perform both tasks, attacking and defensive but I don't think that means we are playing 2 defensive midfielders per se
There have been times when we've even played mereiles there. ridiculous. He can't play there, neither can Essien or Mikel IMO.
If we put Ramires where his strongest position is (CM) then we'll see a difference in the middle. However we have totally inept wingers when Mata is through the middle!
I agree. Ramires is a decent playmekr and makes a lot happen, stick him in midfield when Torres is playing and Lampard behind Drogba...Mata hasn't really done it as much since he's been moved inside, something I was shouting for a while back as well! Mata and Sturridge wide for now, move a couple on in the summer and recruit with the money gained...
Think we have to play with two defensive midfielders vs Barca as defending and playing on the counter suits our game better. Ramires has played as a CDM with Brazil and Essien is great there too I wouldn't play Mikel. ----------------Cech-------------- Ivanovic---Luiz---Terry---Cole ---------Ramires---Essien------- Sturridge---Lampard---Mata ----------------Drogba------------
I agree but I was referring to your original post where you said we played 2 v Wigan which I do not believe we did.
It's a similar midfield to what you used in the early days Mourinho, isn't it? Obviously Mikel/Romeu/Essien aren't a patch on Makelele but they're all out and out DMs, Ramires then takes the old Essien role of getting up and down the pitch as quickly as possible and Lampard's still Lampard.
100% agree. Drogba and Lampard will go all out for this...may well be Didiers last chance, although I do see him signing for a big club if he leaves us
I'd have Mikel there tbh. He's in decent form and him and Ramires would compliment each other well, agree with the rest though. Cech Ivan Luiz Terry Cole Mikel Ramires Sturidge Lampard Mata Drogba And as mentioned, Torres at home maybe.
I would'nt play Essien, imo he's finnished a shadow of the player we saw 2 or 3 seasons ago i'd play Romeu
Drogba has to play in my view. His ability to hold the ball up and bully defenders will be vital against Barca plus he has extra motivation (2009 debarcle!!)
