Wanted - Someone with a good grasp of the usage and benefits of Twitter.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate how this forum could benefit (if at all) from a link up with a customised Twitter Account. Communication needs to be in plain English (no jargon) so that all members can understand.

Twitter is something I do not find very useful, or inviting, and I suspect there are many others who, having looked at Twitter, feel the same. However, maybe with proper usage there are some benefits that we are not tapping into. I’m not one for implementing technology for the sake of it but if it can be shown that the forum could be enriched in some way, then I’m all for exploring possibilities.

If anyone would like to be involved and feel they have the knowledge and imagination to create something useful please let me know.

Also any comments from all would be welcomed below,

    Thank you
    Ron

I struggle big time when it comes to technology Ron, so Twitter isn't something I've had too much to do with. It does have it's place though. I've noticed in the past that when some momentous event has happened in the world, Twitter comes alive. Quite often they lead in the breaking of a story, so I suppose a Twitter account could come in handy from time to time when it comes to racing. But we live in a world of information overload though, and although a bit more might seem a good thing to most, for the likes of me, it just makes things a bit more complicated. <laugh>

But it has to be a good thing .... me thinks.

    Mobiles, Facebook, and twittering fools,
'Twas once a can and a piece of string,
Millions of faceless friends, tapping like ghouls,

I use twitter mostly to follow football stories and transfer rumours, I follow the occasional "celebrity".

What exactly were you thinking of doing Ron? A Not606 twitter?

Sounds easy enough. My main use for twitter though is to hurl abuse at people like Joey Barton,Piers Morgan, Amir Khan and of course George Lineker The insult big lugs bites most to is how did you not pass school after your dad paid so much for you to attend private school.

His typical response is well how come am at uni u donut. Maybe Daddy paid someone to let you in

Something that amazed me when i read about it was in the final of the European Championships recently. The people in the know, the Twitterati counting people, said that when the 4th goal was scored against Italy that on average 15,000 twitter comments per second were sent for the next 2 minutes...!!! This apparently has set a new record for the amount of tweets in a short span of time...(i bet they didnt inform Norris MacWhirter...)

So instead of celebrating the goal, win for Spain, enjoying the moment with your friends etc some people first pick up their mobiles etc and send out a message telling other people how they feel... I dont get that...

Then again we all post on a forum and say what we think so i suppose its similar. Its up to the individual as if you want to read it...

Well so far you all have the same impression of Twitter that I have. If people used it sensibly it could be good I suppose but, as indicated above, who wants to know what someone has just eaten, called each other etc. No doubt someone somewhere is providing a vivid description of the unpleasant crap they have just had, or even having.

Some people follow I don't how many people and have so many followers, I don't know how they get anything done.

However, I do not like to close my mind to something just because I don't like it.

I've been trying to think of uses and this is the sort of thing that comes to mind.

Firstly we would need some people on here who have followers purely for an interest in horse racing. Then if there is a topic on Not606 which could be of interest to them it could be tweeted with a link to Not606. This would attract more guests to the site which might bring in some more revenue which, in turn, could be used to benefit the forums. It might also attract a few more members.

    I'm trying.

I have a personal Twitter account which I use to follow people/services I like. I rarely put out messages of my own.

I run our office Twitter account, which puts out info on what we are up to, racing news, etc.

I could see a 606 Twitter account being of use. If you follow racing celebs you can often ask them to "retweet" your messages to encourage more users and your suggestion of tweeting about interesting topics as they appear on the boards could certainly work well.

    I'd follow it!

If you run your office twitter account Princess, presumably that means you know your way around and understand how to use it effectively. If so, how would you feel about taking the lead on this? You sound ideal.

Ron, I could do to start with. If (hopefully) it gets bigger I'd probably have to hand it over to someone with more time on their hands, but I'm happy to kick it all off and get the ball rolling.

I'll drop you a private message this evening to see what sort of policy we should operate.

Twitter is great. There is obviously plenty of rubbish but there is also a lot of interesting stuff too. It all comes down to following the right people. I never 'got' Facebook at all but I love a good bit of Twitter.
