Wolves have no intention of parting with their best players and are refusing to comment on reports claiming Sunderland have bid for Steven Fletcher.

With the club having slipped out of the Premier League, speculation regarding the future of their most saleable assets was inevitable.

The likes of Fletcher have shown that they are capable of mixing it with English football's elite and will feel that they deserve to be turning out at the highest possible level.

Wolves are not planning on sticking around in the Championship for long, though, with it their intention to secure promotion at the first time of asking.

Keeping their top talents will aid them in that quest and the Molineux board will do all they can to keep the vultures at bay.

    Offers

Chief executive Jez Moxey has made it clear that the club have no need to sell and has sought to brush aside reports suggesting that Sunderland are doing their utmost to lure Fletcher to Wearside.

He told the Express and Star: "We are not getting drawn on offers for players in or out.

"Our best players are not for sale, we want to keep them and build the strongest possible team for the season ahead.

"We will do everything we can to retain the players we want to keep and continue to look to strengthen with new signings."

I think we will get him sooner or later

Wonder who else we have put bids in for and with reports over the last few weeks with strong interest in Ajax star Anita along with Johnson at City and not forgetting Olsson at Blackburn I wonder if any of these are actually accurate, then we have the Real Madrid Catilla duo that MoN has been to watch on a few occasions and Guidetti who was at Feyenoord last season.

By the sounds of it MoN has not been to impressed with the pre season performances so expect our transfer activity to hot up now

This has a touch of Wigan's Dave Whelan doesn't it......

We need as much money as we can possible get so we'll go public and that should get the auction going. Fair play to them but I wouldn't pay more than 10 for him and if they're not interested then we should not dick about and pull out.

I would be no good at this agent/negotiation melarky.

Mind thank **** for Hull, taking him in, and saving us millions on paying his contract off.

Hull are officially Sunderland Association Football Clubs best friend and will be accorded rights beffiting such a link.

Wolves have turned down a £10 million offer from Sunderland for Fletcher, after Martin O’Neill finally made his move for the Scotland international over the weekend.

O’Neill is also understood to have offered Connor Wickham on loan for the season as part of the deal but Wolves are not prepared to accept less than £15 million. Sunderland are reluctant to increase their offer but Fletcher, 25, could now hand in a transfer request in a bid to push through a move to the Stadium of Light.

Stoke’s £2 million bid for Kightly has been rejected by the Championship club.

Kightly, 26, has one year remaining on his contract and Tony Pulis is keen to bring in the winger to provide competition for Jermaine Pennant and Matthew Etherington. But Wolves have turned down the bid and Stoke are unlikely to return with an improved offer.

Wolves also rejected a £4 million bid from West Ham for Matt Jarvis in June and Jez Moxey, the chief executive, insists no players will be leaving Molineux
