Premier League referees Martin Atkinson and Jonathan Moss will retire at end of season Just as I thought all along, (the two bosom buddies) have decided to retire together please log in to view this image Starting their careers attending the same Uni together studying to be teachers they progressed through the same Football Association to become refs and have followed the same path up the refereeing ladder together Fear not Newcastle Fans, they haven't gone away The pair have both taken jobs within the Premier League next season, working for Mike Riley. Moss,(Makem) 51, has been announced as the new manager of the select group one referees, who take charge of Premier League matches (basically it will be he who appoints the refs), while Atkinson, also 51,(best buddie chum to the Makem Moss) will be the coach for that group. These are two new jobs created by Riley (jobs for the boys) and they give Atkinson and Moss the chance to prolong their stay at PGMOL Although Moss could not ref Newcastle because of his six fingers, his bosom buddy could and Atkinson has been shocking with some of his decisions against Newcastle this season (too many to mention over the past seasons) Who can forget Murphy's clean tackle in the box v West ham 1st game of the season and he gives a pen for a dive without consulting VAR or the Man City Keeper taking out Fraser off the ball and doesn't award us a pen Forgot to say that Moss has reffed us before, in 2009 against Blackpool away (lost 2-1) and Watford at Home (won 2-0) and Kevin Nolan was sent off that was the time when refs only had to declare their County affiliation and not who they supported Moss having attended Leeds Uni stayed in the area and was affiliated to the West Riding FA Snaffled from Nufc.com after the Brighton game "Referee: Martin Atkinson - the West Yorkshire whistler returned to Tyneside for the third time this season, following the 2-4 loss to West Ham and 0-4 defeat by Manchester City. He missed so much - or gave so little - that his presence on the field was almost worthless. What he did give merely highlighted his inconsistency. Time to hang up the whistle, Martin." The PGMOL is rotten to the core
The standard of refereeing generally is hitting all time lows IMO. Churchillian voice. Never in the game of football have so many hated so few for doing so little and being so pathetic. Normal voice. I would take the risk of inconsistency and bring back the opportunity for referees to use common sense and discretion when refereeing. Get rid of things such as automatic yellow cards for taking a shirt off eg after scoring a goal and enable referees to give red cards for professional fouls regardless as to where on the pitch it is to name just two. At least on the pitch neither will be missed.
